Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Hot potato vmware

Getting rejects from everywhere. Anyone with similar experience. Feels like this is the worst time to be looking for a job with VMware in your resume.

Unfortunately, VMware tech has gone the way of the Dinosaur and is a far third place in the Kubernetes race. Most companies are focused on Cloud (Aka someone managing your stuffs). VMware is not what it use to be in the marketplace due to complacency and poor management decisions on the part of VMware. This is why it will die a slow death at Broadcom. If you know AWS/Azure and GCP you will find a job. If you don’t good luck.

Wow! I submitted a resume just today and received a rejection email within 10 minutes! Damn, at least wait a day or two to pretend you considered it and maybe even passed it by the hiring manager

Why would Broadcom would waste money on this yearly carnival

RADIO leads to patents. Broadcom loves patents.

Radio is Dog and Pony show every year. Do we have any world class product ? It will be same ChatGPT 2.0 , 3.0 blah blah and jumping into some latest tech jargons band wagon. Why would Broadcom would waste money on this yearly carnival in homeless city that is SF.

leverage your network. it works.
i did a whole bunch of online applications sat and sunday and have 2 interviews for this week. leverage AI for resume summary and cover letters. tailor resume for job posting.
yes hiring is slower but there are still a ton of postings. widen your search for adjacent jobs and industries and be positive!

A point of clarification, it's the worst time to be leaving an old-school enterprise software vendor that's viewed in the tech market as a company that waited too long to make the transition to cloud-based SaaS solutions. And, failed at developing integrated solutions from all the loosely coupled acquired technologies.

As a VMW employee of 2 years now, I honestly see little value in claiming that my time here was worthwhile. The leadership team is in denial, and complacent about accelerating change to fix the most blatant and obvious business model problems.

Otherwise I agree, it's a tough job market right now...

Yeah, I wouldn't take that personally - just glancing at a lot of job openings for jobs where VMware is a requirement there's dozens of applicants for every open role. It's not the best time of year to be looking in general, and a lot of organizations are in "wait and see" mode right now with the economic conditions being what they are. Keep at it, and NETWORK. I've referred two job seekers who were laid off earlier this year to companies where I had someone in my network who hired them where there was no public job posting!

Now is the time to connect with people who know your work or you have worked with in the past and ask for a referral to their company (whether they have a job now or not).

Gotta love those auto-rejection emails that say "We've enjoyed getting to know you, but.."

It's industry wide, seemingly. Too many job seekers, not enough jobs. Those massive layoffs last year still impacting my market & Dell just did another big round so we're just small fish in a big pond, unfortunately.

I’m in Ops. Finally getting some interviews so it’s not VMware per se, there’s just a lot of applicants so keep submitting and you’ll eventually get through. It took me over 50 submissions to get a response.

VMware skills have become generic and now perceived as legacy. Recruitment is focused on cloud native, AI/ML and security.

Not that companies not wanting VMware skillset. It is year end .. hiring starting in Feb. Second, even though, VMware products are all over the place but not a "core" demanding skillset. Anyone can join a company and learn it on and getting by. If you look at it, a lot of useless and generic skillset you learned at VMW throughout the years. Good to have but not necessary to have type of skillset.

Hiring in Q4 is always slow. Hiring freezes, focus on making the year, etc.

I am also seeing the same thing. I don't think it's VMware though, I think it's just in general. Remember, when you apply for those linked in or glass door postings, there are hundreds of other people applying too.
