Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Any word on US sites outside of SD?

I work in AZ. I've read rumors that most (all?) US satellite sites will be closed. Not sure of the validity to that, but I suspect we're more at risk than the home office. I'm fine with whatever happens though. Will take my severance and do something else if it happens.

@duc+1oCCCKvc do you think hiring managers on the other side are stupid ... once there are more people in the market they will lowball you. good luck

OP here. There are actually a number of opportunities here in AZ: Renesas, Intel, NXP, Marvell, ARM, etc. I actually have an interview lined up already, but I'd like to time a potential move after I receive my severance. I do intend to make QC pay me to go away.

it is prudent to expect most remote sites to close down either this year or early next year with round 2 layoffs.

Dear Arizona, New Jersey, etc

If it's any consolation, the San Diego campus will be a shopping mall soon anyway. In this economy, I can see Dollar Store, Aldis, Goodwill, Walmart... and CA wearing a blue vest checking your receipt with a highlighter.

Q eliminated numerous satellite offices in the 2015 reduction, along with many telecommuters. Q is not a fan of remote work or sites too far away from the mothership. The Bay Area and Austin offices are here to stay, but the rest are probably vulnerable.

My best advice is to live in an area with numerous alternative opportunities, keep your skills up-to-date, and make sure management always sees your value. The key is to be flexible and not become shackled to any one company. No company cares about you. All companies will cut you loose when it suits their agenda. You just have to make sure that you have something to offer other companies. That's your only safety net.
