Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Fate of Sales?

Lots of speculation on the fate of duplicate roles, HR, IT, CB, EUC, Eng, Marketing, etc, etc, etc….but what about the sales orgs? Core, specialist, various segments, etc…

How do the sales teams and salespeople fare in a Broadcom acquisition? The same arbitrary cuts by spreadsheet, or performance based, or…what?

40% cut across the board with many good or great sales people as part of it. Many good ones will get rehired within 60 days but more like 5%. This includes SEs.

Where are these Super BC Sales people? I am in VMW Sales and I run into the BC Software sales team (Symantec, CA) They are not nearly as engaged in Enterprise accounts as VMware Sales is. All I see them chasing is renewals. No new need or expansion.

If you are talking about sellers working with OEMs and strategic partners (Apple, Google, Meta) that is a totally different selling motion. They are working with hardware vendors in these AI clients too, not alone.

That is not even remotely close to what VMware Software sellers do.

Where? Most of the guys and gals I see are ex-Greek row members who know how to slide a company credit card. They can't even spell half of the time.

“ Broadcom's sales staff has some serious technical chops with many being prior engineers + higher education. That will be your competition”

So does vmware. But vmware sales know how to sell software.

No one knows for sure. Just speculation, but think Corporate/Commerical could get hit harder considering the emphasis on Strategic.

Broadcom only negotiates with 100% direct customers. No price-silent ELAs. As soon as they introduce their model (or rather, get rid of ours), they won’t need as many resources anymore, including Sales.

Broadcom has specialist sales engineers and sales people. If you’re skilled and good at either. There may be a future for you.
