Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

My expectations of average intellectually is lost, the responses to the FRA are terrible!

I am an employee, sadly I am embarrassed by the poorly written responses to the letter written by the FRA. Amit Bose like him or not has a Juris Doctorate from Columbia university. A billion dollar company can’t hire someone to put together a better response? Vena’s letter is written at a high school level at best, the mechanical department response is 6th grade if we are lucky. If I was the chief administrator of the FRA I would laugh at this poorly written explanation of poor performance, and lackluster plan. I would simply tell my inspectors to make this worse, give them what they have coming!!

Firing managers would be the best thing UP can do…People working from home should no longer be tolerated…Managers should not be allowed to come back to their craft..

This isn’t written business communication 101, it’s a railroad. The very best mechanic and welder I ever saw on the railroad was a horrible speller.

Upper management thinks things can get done even with less people because field management has always lied about what it takes to get things done.

They lie because upper management will rip their rear end for doing what needed to be done to get the job done.

Very mature arguing and name calling on a layoff site, just sad. Prob refresh page every 30 seconds to make sure you are the one that gets last word in.

To the original post, your observation is correct. I have a bigger problem w/ the company ignoring those people vocalizing the need for more headcount then defending current staffing levels. We’ve witnessed the loss of head count from before V and after him. A few times now Ive read “the people closest to the work are gonna make the decisions” well if the people doing the work say “we need X amount of people” listen to them. If upper management isnt gonna listen then come down here and show us how to get all this done with so few people in the given amounts of time. Upper management doesnt even investigate or ask if there is adequate staffing in all depts across all locations they just claim that there is and even claim to have a buffer?
