Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Need input

What should I do?

  • Stick around, train my replacements in India, let more RSUs get vested, and then finally get a package when I get the notice.

OR....

  • Get a job elsewhere right away.

Advantage of the latter is the satisfaction of not letting Q gain from my loss.
For the first, can I ask my new employer to pay extra signup bonus to account for the $$$ I could get from Q? Is the job market good enough these days for this to be possible?
Am I missing anything else?
I have a feeling that this applies to a lot of folks here.

Job market is weak. All tech companies are letting people go.

First: Take the thumb out of your mouth
Second: Jump in some cold water this will help you realize you are alive
Third: stop swimming towards the drain and thinking like a tech slave
Fourth: Learn to be aggressive in life or else get comfortable with being beaten down
Fifth: Grab a ho---r and feel like a man and don't be ashamed
Sixth: Take that winning attitude and ride life's rollercoaster
Result: after going through some near term pain - you will use these motivations to become a rich man with women begging - that is a happy life - but the choice is yours

If you are a long timer say more than 10 years then stay to get the package

What I have seen usually is people who left qualcomm have done better in many ways.

Sadly Quality is not the same company it used to be anymore

If you can get a job, leave. What do you expect? RSU will be your retirement plan? Negotiate RSU's for annual bonus or profit sharing or sign on bonus.

Bigger question is why you have replacements in India.

I am honestly surprised that countries have been allowing us to sell products in their respective markets without asking for at least some of the work to be done there.

Like really, why isn't Brazil and Mexico and Ireland asking for the same thing India is requiring now? Or did we really believe that they will allow expensive labor here to leech off their workers?
