Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

What % cut from SD

Any info on how many people getting cut in HQ alone? When will we be able to see on WARN?

India is joke. It takes 3-4 India techs to do what one US tech does and it takes the India techs 2-3 times as long to solve a problem. How is that cost savings? Even if the India techs make 30k/year that is still around 120k/year and then you have the non-productivity cost the engineer is sitting there waiting for their issue to be resolved. Yeah a huge cost savings moving everything to India, lol.

Lots of noise on this forum for May layoff notices even though impact was very small and in line with the overall 5% opex reduction announced 6 months ago. This time earnings call announced no indicators of recovery being seen and no upper limit on layoffs mentioned , so impact likely will be huge. Justified to have a lot of activity on this forum this time.

Here is the estimate if the economy does not improve

15% of worldwide staff cut = 7875 people WW laid off
65% of that number laid off in US = 5118 people laid off in US
77% of US in San Diego = 3940 psople in San diego to be laid off
In San Diego 3940/12900 = 30% (3870 will be let go in SD)

That is a pretty big number in SD

Using logic more than most posts on here…

  • “Apple has secured this year's entire 3nm production of TSMC”
  • - Little to no revenue expected from Apple upcoming FY
  • Overall handset market is expected to be stagnet FY24 (Down 20% from FY22)
  • Other BU revenues are mostly pipeline and not real cash flow
  • CA mentioned in AHM no more layoffs after October for FY24 or board would have to vote him out

Expect significant SD reduction % in October to CYA for last note above.

"99% cut from India, which actually increase output and productivity: addition by subtraction."
that's a fairy tale
all high cost areas should be shaking in their boots
you should have moved to arkansas
they will just take the knowledge you helped create and ship it to India for maximum profit (unless India already stole it of course)
