Is this really happening ? Why would they do it in the middle of a quarter, i dont think they have ever done that before. In feb it was right at the start of the quarter. When in september ?

YES INDEED! Dell strikes again by laying off some of their most seasoned sales professionals. Dell asks for loyalty, however, has none for those who have severed them very well.
It's hard to talk about layoffs when the company is so large and the layoffs are region and organization specific. Are there more layoffs? Yes - in fact although I am safe, some of my colleagues are impacted. Fact: there are layoffs going on right now throughout the month of September. All of the layoffs I am in the know about do not include any sales team roles.
Looks like the wfr has been pushed to this monday to expedite the solution. sources say
What about engineering ?
They laid off over a thousand people in sales last Sept 16. Why wouldn't they do it again?
If you are a white man, over 50, making $100K or more, and once worked for EMC, best of luck keeping a job at dell.
September layoffs will be services and support. Sales is done for this quarter
Does that mean next quarter more are coming?
September layoffs will be services and support. Sales is done for this quarter
When can we expect the sept ones? Early September?
@1wtu+1o9nCdqP - Do you understand the logistics and time it takes to lay off thousands of employees in a few days time?
The issue is that if you work in sales they are tring to manage teams out instead of paying
Return to tge office was the start followed by ever increasing targets and re orgs.
With the push to online and partner relationship, headcount needs to be reduced.
Here is how the Layoff math works at Dell.
Each Division is told how many people to eliminate in the planned layoff.
There are no Back fills allowed in most areas of Dell. Thus if someone leaves they cannot be replaced regardless to if leaving is for a reason like retiring or part of a layoff.
So if the division is told to eliminate 10 people in a Layoff and 1 person leaves before then the division has lost 11 people. If that 1 person who leaves before is one of the 10 that was planned, then the division needs to replace that person in the Layoff list, so again they lose Net 11 people.
If that 1 person were to stay and be part of the Layoff then there is a chance that the VP can ask that they be substituted for someone already on the list. Net loss to Division is now 10. If that person was already on the list, then the division does not need to replace them. So Net loss is still 10.
Given the No Back fill rule that is currently in effect, it is best to keep as many headcount as you can.
Why would they want to keep you until September if they are doing layoffs, makes no sense
When my 3rd line manager (i.e. VP) heard that I was thinking of retiring and gets on a call with me and asks if I can hold out until September (without committing anything) is a good clue to me.
No I am not going to say what group I am in. Suffice it to say I am not in Sales (If I was I would probably already be gone).
what percentage?
R1 > rR2 > Rn
R1 == Feb
What % will go in mid September?
It's mid September for non-sales orgs. This has been widely known and confirmed by leadership since late June. Restructure is happening now and will finish after WFR is complete. No idea what else is happening with the rest of the year.
The managers and leaders have informed that the employees are a mismatch to the team, work or deliverable. So more wfr are coming.
I can tell you one thing. Dont assume the leaders know what they are doing.
Someone will pay for the ignorance or incompetence of the leaders. And it will be the jobs of honest employees., because political ones will know how to backstab.
DP, The WFRs are definitely happening, whether you like it or now. It would be non-sales, should be early to mid Sept
