Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Do better

To all those talking about quiet quitting, doing as little as possible, and looking for other jobs on the clock all day. Ouch. I lost my job at Optum last week. I loved my job, my boss, my teammates. I worked hard and enjoyed being productive. I'm gutted. Sad. Angry. But I'd take my job back in a heartbeat. It actually really su-ks to see you all got to keep your jobs despite not even caring about them. For every one of you bragging about slacking off, there is someone with a family who was laid off who would do anything to have your job. Sigh. I wish you all would just quit. Give the rest of us a chance to work in your place. Do better

OP - I understand your pain, but with your sad testimonial you are basically validating what others have said. You worked hard, were loyal, yet you got laid off. Yet the others who may not their best are still there. Goes to show how much the management at that place cares and knows about its employees

I'm sorry OP, I understand you pain but we are angry. We are angry that no matter years of loyalty, hard work and sacrifice we are dismissed without thought. NOT because Optum is downsizing, because they are moving jobs offshore. People are choosing to work hard anymore to an organization that acts like this. Your job was gone regardless as to how the rest of us are acting. Ours will follow soon.
Be well OP.

I work my a-s off and I’m still not meeting the metrics they give us. Those that have gotten laid off have been either non performers or had attendance problems (in my department). I have been tempted to stay and work OT even though I’m salary because I need my job. Whoever would di---e around doing nothing now just doesn’t care if they have a job or they know their next. My work ethic will not let me just do nothing. I wasn’t raised that way.

“But I still love him” said the fool as she ran back to the arms that pushed her away for another, much as a dog would return to it’s vomit.
Some people just love those toxic relationships…

I know you will find a better opportunity. Not trying to be insensitive. But I couldn't imagine getting laid off and then getting on a forum and chastising the remaining employees who are feeling anxious, scared, demotivated, and like nothing but a number to their company. Any of us could be next. Your anger about being laid off is incredibly misdirected. Whether or not someone goes above and beyond in their position shouldn't matter to someone who isn't even with the company anymore. My line of business specifically laid off those on corrective action plans or those not doing as well as others. I am normally a pretty high performer. I would be lying if I said these layoffs didn't make me feel less important to the company. It's just business, and instead of a human being with kids to feed and bills to pay, I am simply the bottom line that has to be cut. Telling anxious and demotivated people to "just quit" (as if they don't have bills just like you..) because they are feeling demoralized is weird. Even if they did quit you probably wouldn't get your job back. So what's the point? Loyalty to a company does not get you anywhere anymore. I am sad you can't see that and instead choose to whine about unproductive people. Clearly if they continue to perform poorly they will most likely get cut too. Those of us left behind now have a larger work load for no extra pay and could get cut any day. So sue me if I'm not on my hands and knees thanking the company for being so sweet and generous and kind for keeping me on and making sure I work extra super duper hard.

Reaponse to commentor:

"Look where caring so much about your job got you. It's not your coworkers fault you got laid off." - Never said it was

"Blame corporate greed." - I dont blame anyone. It's business.

"Someone going into work and busting a-s does not save them from getting laid off. Why work yourself to the bone for a company who would lay you off regardless?" - Being productive gives me much more satisfaction compared to mindlessly giving away one-third of my life for a paycheck

"Telling people to work harder for the company that took away your bread and butter to offset their own losses and line their pockets is ridiculous." - I didnt tell anybody to work hard. I said those of you on here that are clearly miserable should just quit...

"Blaming the little guys instead of the mega corporation is wild. But you do you. Good luck on your job search." - Please show me where I blamed the little guys.

You are unbelievably insensitive and jump to conclusions faster than I've ever seen. I'll find a better opportunity. Good luck and have fun living with that miserable mindset.

The biggest impact to Off-Shoring jobs is the penny pinching these off shore companies NEED to do. We have all seen systems not patched or old versions and cheap third party tools that have vulnerabilities. I wonder where MoveIt is developing software.

On our team our VP was into empire building. He massively over hired in 2022 to make sure he had well over 8 direct reports. Entire team then became more vulnerable as their cost went through the roof.

Management keeps everything secret and all of a sudden they do layoffs. The common worker gets the boot,, but i wonder if management gets any severance package sweet deal when they get layed off, or they may even get promoted to united health care system instead of optum branch. Keep look out and follow where layed off management goes!!!!

I am pretty sure my boss is to blame. She has us fill our calendars to look busy, and has us decline meetings with other departments to keep up the ruse.

I've never worked at a company wherein the Directors actively mislead the VPs in this way, because they know if don't do so they will be laid off and have a much harder time finding a job at their level than us cogs will.

Don't be angry at your coworkers. please be angry at your leadership sending American jobs overseas, at your president not caring, increasing inflation by doling out trillions and forcing fed to increase interest rate thus making capital expensive.

I am pretty sure all of the slackers are on our team. They are never available and complain every time there is a new task. I am hoping leadership sees who is actually working on our team and not babysitting, Amazon prime shopping, at silver sneakers, and or working their side gigs 😡 they need to go asap! Save the job for those that actually work.
