Anybody think Up will merge with CPKC ? Why not ? Jim V. and K. Creel know each other from way back at Canadian National rr. Both rr did the psr too.

I won't disagree about both companies being run poorly, however based on their income and ROI for the shareholder they are a gold mine. Vanguard and Blackrock have a large influence on the market and the economy. The government does have to approve a merger but thats why all of these big entities have lobbyist.
I really don't think you understand how mergers work. If you have two companies that are cut thin and doing poorly, then the last thing you should do is merge them together. A poorly run company merging with another poorly run company, only makes a poorly run company bigger. Mergers have to be approved by the federal government. They make the choice on the merger, not the investors.
Look at the largest shareholders of the UP and the CSX. They are both mostly owned by the same investment companies. Look at the UP website and the latest of how it stacks up against the other railroads. UP and CSX are the closest. Once both companies are cut to the bone, the only way for the major shareholders of both railroads to make more money is to merge them together. Also, the investment companies have been manipulating the CSX stock price to keep it near $30/share since its last split. Don't worry about the STB getting in the way, your donation to the FFEG will help take care of the red tape.
Very much doubt it! There's a lot of rules for RR's when it comes to mergers/acquisitions. It would create a huge monopoly for a foreign line on American soil.
STB would never allow it
I too have wondered about this. If a lot or manufacturing is gonna be relocated from china to central & south america then a south to north plan is what they’ll do. I think most of the historical focus was against one railroad going from the atlantic to the pacific, UP already goes from mexico to canada.
UP to buy CSX
