Thread regarding VMware layoffs

How will we be told that we are gone

Just wondering if any of the previously acquired people from Symantec etc can shed any light on how you are told you are gone.

Does your manager know weeks in advance that you are gone and they inform you on the day.
Does your manager get any prior notice at all.
Are you notified via an email and that's it.
Is there a meeting with HR.

With possibly 1000s affected (including myself), I'm just curious as to how I'll be told.

Pre severance package. Is that the one that went to all Ops folks or is that more of a transition package? Ops got 20% of their base.

I heard from a finance team member, they already were told the teair is going to be reduced to a from now to Nov. Some of them received a "pre-severange" package to keep in the position until its closed. They didn't get a salary increase on this august... With that said, if you have not been advised, I'm thinking we are not going to be layoff on first days of the merger

i'm pretty sure this is common place at vmw.

What you're describing is pretty common for the entire world, across every industry. This is not VMware dysfunction.

One of our VPs heard from BC that he and his fellow VPs will be gone on day 1. Senior Directors are endangered as well. Everyone else should not worry that much, especially not the “foot soldiers”.

Possible scenario: HR data is likely being run in their systems to a match a statistical curve that hits employees across all age groups, time with company, genders and so on. The goal will be set to save X number of dollars and it will generate a list. They will not be reaching out the VPs so they can choose their favorite employees. They will do this at scale. They will cut and then hire to fill real necessities.

I have a manager who pretends to be on customer escalation calls to avoid speaking to his team. But i think he is an olympic champion at kissing his VPs an-l region and hiding the fact he is one of the worst people leaders i have ever come across - i'm pretty sure this is common place at vmw.

the place is full of, at best mediocre people managers, who think they are industry and thought leaders.... i wish i was good at reading slide notes for an entire meeting. sad really that what was a great iconic company has come to this.

I’m a manager at VMW and neither I nor my peers know anything. Nor our VP, about us. They are still in the assessment phase.
