VMware total workforce by role

I'm just wondering out of curiosity, does anyone know how the total workforce of VMware is splitted among roles/organization? (R&D, sales, customer success, Product management ecc ecc...)

In particular out of the 35K VMware employee does anyone has a minimal idea (even if not accurate) of the total percentage of Software engineers? Should they be around 40/50%? or it is a too high extimation?

6K IT?!

You need 6K IT people when no one knows anything.
This bloat allows to reassign tickets to other groups that also know nothing.
Those groups then reassign the ticket to another random group.

15K - engineering
10K - sales
10K - support and PS
6K - IT
The rest is Finance, Legal, HR, etc
The bloat is across the board, plenty of it in Eng

Our leaderships obsession with employee count and diversity makeup has been a major reason for VMwares failure. Truly it is. Every problem they have tried to solve results in them throwing more people at it.

Sales are bad, so let’s hire more salespeople. There is not enough diversity so let’s grow HR and create a team dedicated to DEI.

Products are not integrated so let’s hire more people to focus on the main thing.

They have focused on everything but building products and services our customers need and want. It’s all about the product people. So much waste, BS corporate speak, signaling none of which does anything to increase profits. Hock may be ruthless, but he’s the inevitable result for poorly run companies like ours. He’s the stent for businesses that have done nothing but binge on fatty foods and sugar.

So it su-ks Magoo gets 50 million for being an utter failure. I just hope deep down he realizes what a failure he was.

Ignoring back office like finance, legal, HR, ops etc and including field/marketing vs engineering/R&D/pm… it’s definitely more sales/marketing vs eng/R&D/pm. I would say 70:30. That’s where the bloat is. Overlay on overlay. So much inefficiency and sales commissions, duplicated over and over. This makes for a very inefficient organisation. hock knows it so expect a lot of sales reorg and BUs being let go.
