Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum/UHC hiring?

I got like 5 emails and few phone calls, for contract roles at Optum/UHC. How is it possible or even legal that, they let go 1000s of people and now hiring contractors? Did anyone else get calls/emails for contract roles?

Contracting is how businesses get their employee numbers down to the level Wall Street investors think they should have. I worked at Per-Se / McKesson / Change. Then my employment was transferred to Wipro so Change could say they reduced the number of employees but still get the work done. But (there is always a but) Wipro started adding lower cost (with no experience) programmers in India to the team and eventually the US based programmers were let go.

This is pretty typical. They always have open requisitions when they lay off and give 0 effort to try and place the folks they’re letting go in those open jobs.
