Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Answer me one question

Did a single one of the people you know who would deserve to be laid off actually end up being let go? I'm interested in other people's experiences with this, because all of our slackers are still here.

I know of 3 true slackers that do nothing, complain every time they get any small assignment, feign ignorance and are completely incompetent when they are asked for anything, yet they are still here. They've been allowed to behave this way for 2 to 6 years, and their management enables them. They, including their also completely incompetent manager, are sadly all still here. So clearly it varied by department on who was cut.

Looking at the names from this round of cuts and seeing those names still there...yeah total head scratcher. There are so many still there that I couldn't even tell you what they did or why they were even there. I wondered how I had so much work to do and then there was people that just took up space. But they literally just cut everybody with a high paying position and kept the bare minimum, I guess, very sad.

Our slackers (at least the ones least proficient in grossly over estimating their capacity) were the ones hit hardest this round. Managers were asked to rate their employees without context other than it being related to mid year reviews, then they were told to cut the lowest rated up until the new budget was even. It was weighted against onshore, but otherwise it was 100% manager discretion. The comforting thing is that due to openings elsewhere most were shuffled to other teams and able to keep their jobs this time.

The people who were laid off in my department had the most seniority and had higher pay than the people who stayed. Thus they want to save money!

Majority of my team, laid off and not laid off, kept asking "why wasn't manager x laid off!!". Borderline racist and name-calling manager got to stay. They were involved in a discrimination lawsuit with UHG a few years ago too and they got a free transfer . Says a lot about the company.

No one deserves layoffs. I feel everyone has some talent and something productive to offer. It is a good manager that puts them in a position to succeed. Like sprinkling seeds within an organization. It's a wonderful thing to see them bloom.

In my case, I can’t think of one person who should have been let go. We all added value.

I think they lay off the high performers so they can get good placement in competitor companies that they want to eventually purchase. Once you are rif’d you are free from the non compete and most will stick with career field, especially any that are over 50. This company wants to monopolize the healthcare system. Sneaky ba----ds.

They like to use these to get rid of low performers but also mid level exec mgt who have a lot of shares. They get pull back the shares and redistribute to c-suite

If you let go of high performers, you can cut bonuses, maybe that’s why…

Let's see how far this company gets by keeping all their slackers and letting go high performers. All I can say is: karma.

Also… ppl who just started are still employed meanwhile ppl with years of service have been let go.

We had an extremely incompetent manager who was let go, it was the only highlight for us in the previous round.

For the most part people around my area who were let go were solid performers. There were several however who would definitely be considered lower performers.
