Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Management merry-go-round

My management keeps changing every few months without explanation. I get zero to no notice, sometimes I’m not even told until some unknown taps me on the shoulder.

I have to keep explaining what I am doing, over-and-over again to the new boss. I have crafted a special set of sides to reuse each time. I can even anticipate the questions the new guy will ask, it’s quite farcical.

The managers being parachuted in have literally no experience or expertise in my field. One guy was an “HR specialist” by trade… they may as well have appointed a circus clown or an astronaut.

I may be in a dreary part of the company but it’s critical component that is usually taken VERY seriously. I’m certain that Aramco would be stripped of its license to operate in a normal country where safety is taken seriously.

From what I see it’s only a matter of time before some massive clusterfxuk occurs. I do hope I’m long retired by then.

Par for the course in that awful place. Amazes me how more things haven’t gone pop. Well, they probably have but brushed under the many carpets.
My management was beyond useless.

I was exactly in your situation and basically left Aramco for that reason. One of the few ways the average Aramco employee can tell how much (or little) the company values the Department where (s)he works is to look at who they assign to run it. I strongly suspect that top management knows which managers are toxic. Unproven leaders are assigned to unimportant Departments to train them. Toxic leaders are assigned to unimportant Departments to mitigate the damage they can do. While that was always the case, the difference now is that top management only considers something important if Riyad does. All Riyad wants from Aramco is dividends and hallucination 2030 PR. Unless your Department keeps the oil flowing or contributes to the "Magical Mystery Tour", you are likely to get the treatment that OP is getting.
