And Broadcom is pretty transparent. The time to freak out was a year ago. We should all be ready for our fates at this stage.

If you are transition, there will be no new RSU grants, but your vested VMware RSUs will continue to vest during your transition period. If you are hired and given RSUs, only those that have vested by the time you leave (whether voluntary or not) will survive.
DO we think any roles will be safe outside of engineering roles?

Why? Because its not difficult to find anonymous accounts of exactly what kind of company BC is. They do not at all sound like a warm and cuddly company. The accounts I've read makes it sound like a brutal place to work where no matter your position you will forever be on the cusp of being laid off, and these layoffs never stop either. Other accounts suggest teams are cut and cut to where those remaining are left with an impossible amount of work to do. And you are expected to come to the office 5 days a week. Seeing as how traffic is back to being as bad as it was prior to the pandemic does anyone want to spend 10-15 hours sitting in a car?

I’m staying too out of curiosity but also because I’ve saved saved saved when the announcement was made so I have built some liquid cushion to last me and my family at least a year. I’m also in a unit that wasn’t called out as duplicative. There are far too many who stuck around judging by the number of employees left, and I’m not sure if they’re all prepared for the financial impact. Hopefully those who stayed are prepared for today’s job market. The RSUs are alluring but I do wonder if we get paid the remainder when we get axed? If so it’s worth staying indeed! But I’m also not foolish to assume my job will make it past the early rounds. Assume the worse and hopefully be pleasantly surprised instead.

If BC wants to keep me on for another year (with a boatload of RSUs), that is fine by me.
I really appreciate this forum for helping me get my plan B in place and giving me a heads up. People who are warning are not over dramatizing. It’s just when you read some of the responses some still seem to think they’ll be spared. Unless you’re a prized engineer, consider yourself lucky to have been given ample warning. Even Broadcom and former Broadcom employees have come in here saying the cuts will be very deep. Some who even got the permanent offers were still cut eventually. If there are other cheaper GEOs who can do your job then you know what’s coming eventually.
In all of my various jobs, never before was there such an obvious sign that I needed to get another job as soon as BC made the announcement to acquire VMW. Their playbook is reliably the same and knowing that my role at VMW was in one of the departments they always ax I took the message and started looking immediately. Everyone has their own decisions to make and I respect those whom have stayed. But as the OP has stated anyone who had any doubt over their future employment due to the acquisition has had over a year to do something about it. Good luck to all.
Doubt Broadcom have sat still while waiting for regulatory approval. Hold onto your hats as expect things will move very quickly once all confirmed.
Assume that your job will be eliminated, and start working on Plan B (if you haven't already). Hope is not a strategy that will protect you or those who depend on you. Hock and his leadership team only care about BC investor profits. So, find another job ASAP. Don't be the fool who waits in the hope of being saved.
I don’t disagree. And for those in vulnerable roles especially, do not squander this opportunity to perfectly time your exit. Most layoffs happen without warning. You’ve been given ample time and there’s still some time between now and Oct 31st. I think that’s why the leakers leaked the info on Business Insider, to give people a heads up.
Nothing wrong in using this platform to rant, gossip and vent out.
Doesn’t mean everyone is unprepared, weeping or freaking out.
It’s just an outlet and helps to connect with others in a similar situation.

Couldn’t agree more. There’s way too much weeping going on. DEI here benefits there, it’s obvious what’s going on. We can’t change it, so adapt or leave is my opinion. I am fine with the changes. While I appreciate the VMware environment, business wise it’s a great opportunity to finally be driven by numbers and more objective decisions.
