Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

More layoffs ... Engineering mgmt is a root of problem

TD Engineering used to have knowledgeable technical leaders at all levels, now we have none at all. All the knowledgeable people, mover, and shakers have been RIFfed or resign on their own after trying to help. All current mgmt are yes people, political survivors, and known back stabber, or vengeful.

All engineering VPs are clueless when it comes to the current TD product. They´re either process evangelist, former software quality workers, hackathon planner, or manament executive wanna be held over from the StackIQ acquisition. All others are scared stiff, just playing the political game to survive, and are basically useless despite their past accomplishments.

We have clueless people making hiring and firing and product decisions, we are doomed in the long run and destined for failure and perpetual layoffs.

Engineering management has faults ... HOWEVER

The REAL root of the problem is:

  • - the fat-cat Board (who get a lot of options for doing nothing)
  • - the worthless ELT they (the Board) hired and keep on
  • - the s*ckup assortment of VPs / Directors

Until that sludge remains in place, there is no hope.

So demoralizing for engineering VPs to bring up issues, originally raised by engineering experts they RIFfed, as their own and orchestrate recruiting new hires to reinvent the wheel.

yes, quite a few in the engineering management chain got their stripes from keeping good inventory spreadsheets, taking notes, and brown nosing.

Bad and clueless directors and above hired more mindless followers. There were directives to manage old timers out and place priority on hiring and promoting diversity candidates. Again, just look at all the recent promotions compare to people that they got rid off and judge for yourself.
