Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Groups that are safer

Okay, I know that you will now say that nobody is safe and that everyone should be prepared, but are there any groups that can feel at least a little bit safer?

Heard CPU/ GPU is safe. Is it true that no layoff from GPU ? At Europe they are hiring for GPU. Does it mean that task will be moved from USA to Europe ?

SVPs aren’t safe, neither are VPs. We are top heavy and need to shed the higher titles.

@1twe+1o1PWeVi What level is your manager? Did your manager mean the entire QCA or just your team?

6G is safe, as is automotive.

AI is safe for now, but it has yet to be seen if that is a bubble or an investment to pay off in future. It is still a drop in the bucket though.

Also, all R and D is safe for now because you can’t cut the future, but again, it may not be safe in 2025.

There are only two types of teams right now - ones with fewer layoffs and ones with more layoffs

Sorry you are not in QCA!. My manager told us that we are very safe and immune to layoffs. Let me know if you want an internal transfer referral

Pwevi wants to live in a delusional world. Once they come and axe him we can then ask how safe was he? QCA is the low margin business with future that is real bleak. Wi-Fi chips are commodity and they are being sold less than a dollar and will be sold even cheaper. Business that are very low margin and with margins shrinking further is never a business one wants to keep. Even execs are leaving QCA.It’s a sinking ship. Run before it takes you with it in the deep waters.

I'd love to see the realtors put a "For Sale" sign in front of some of the buildings, with the little flyers. Maybe they can have an "Open House" signs with the flags and serve little candies and drinks.

QTL is pretty safe. Very lean group and by far the biggest money maker! Qualcomm is a better law firm than engineering company

At the conclusion of the all-hands meeting, CA highlighted several prioritized projects, including 6G and on-device AI. Given that the impending layoffs will be project-based, teams linked to these initiatives can expect a notably reduced percentage of cuts.

No, no groups are safe. Some teams may only have to lose one person. Others may be asked to cut more. Either way we are in for a truly hideous two months.
