Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Broadcom Layoff- what's your best guess on how it will happen? Will we find out if we will be in a lay-off group in August?

Considering Broadcom's acquisition will close by the end of October and considering the 60 day notice, will they announce layoffs in mid-end of August?

If they do announce layoffs in August, will they tell you what group you will be or do you have to wait until October to find out (immediate lay-off at end of Oct, transition lay-off, etc)? How transparent have they been in past acquisitions?

We know the CMA have a deadline of 9/12. I can't find out online is there a deadline for the FTC to make a decision. Is there a date or is it opened ended would anyone know.

"Those NOT in Day 0 layoffs are given transitional offer letter (~ 6 months) or permanent offer letter"

But, note the BC prior acquisition policy, they may require remaining employees to 're-apply' for their current job, with the understanding they are on probation until a later date. Those who don't pass the 'performance plan' test will be terminated (some without severance).

I agree with last week of Sep. Last week of August is in 15 days time, LOL!!! I don't think this is happening this soon, CMA has to still formally approve, FTC has to also give approvals and even EU approval at this point is provisional, they have to give final approval. This is at the very least a month out from now, more likely 6 weeks out, that puts us end September.

My guess:

[ sometime between last week of Sep / First week of Oct ] :

  • FTC approval comes through
  • BC finalizes close within a few days
  • Day 0 layoffs immediate with 2 months severance, large percentage of Sales, HR, Ops, Marketing, Legal, Admin and some management are let go
  • Those NOT in Day 0 layoffs are given transitional offer letter (~ 6 months) or permanent offer letter
  • Remote workers not within a 50 mile radius of a BC office are given option to relocate within 6 months or they will be let go (exceptions to this will be possible but very difficult)

This is based on prior layoff data from CA.

My guess is WARN notices will go out and layoffs will occur at a the same time. The work around is whom ever is going will be let go, will go but kept on payroll for the WARN period. That way they can reorganize quickly and keep within the existing VMW 2 month severance policy.
