Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

When will it continue?

I know layoffs are never-ending and all that cr-p, but do we have any idea when can we expect the next wave to take place? Will it continue this week? Next week? Before the end of the month? Or are we done for at least a while before we start to get hit again?

@hfk+1o11ak11 Tenure, pure and simple. Its a straightforward formula, not much to game, and you can't negotiate it (what leverage do you have?)

how do you get eligible for a longer severance package? is there a hard/fast rule on tenure, etc.?

Another small round coming in 2nd or 3rd week of Sept. This will not be as large as the hits at the end of the quarter. The off-cycle reductions tend to be smaller in natural, but more strategically targeted towards a specific group. I am hearing that overlays will be targeted in the Sept timeframe. Useless groups such as SPS, UDS and DPS will be thinned out.

I don't know if there are more prosperous times ahead. Dell seems to be getting rid of its salesforce almost entirely. I should have seen the writing on the wall with how ridiculously cheap they are. That made it difficult to entertain customers.

Nobody knows for sure. Or at least nobody with actual knowledge on this forum is willing to risk stating it so bluntly for risk of being identified (execs sign NDAs).

For this week (week 1 of quarter), most likely be over today (Wednesday). Dell typically does layoffs on Wednesdays, or the days leading up to Wednesdays in a week.

Beyond this, we just don’t know. Even people with knowledge, it may be limited to their area so it’s not a complete picture. A VP may know for certain their area will be done by such and such a week, and simply be unaware for other orgs. I’ve had VPs tell me this. They don’t really send wide emails broadcasting these. I know of Sr Directors who had no idea cuts were even happening.

There’s rumors it would be first 2 weeks of the quarter, week 1 and 3 of the quarter, or week 1 of the quarter and then follow-on waves throughout the quarter.

Basically, just keep your powder dry. You can’t control this process and decisions are already made. Be prepared financially. Proactively apply to other jobs if you want. It’s likely not worth sticking around for some piddly severance unless you’d be eligible for 6+ months equivalent of salary.

I’ve heard overall cuts are going to be about 10-15% of the entire company, but it’s skewed pretty heavily towards sales. That number basically lines up with a continual 20% year over year revenue reduction, which is what we have.

More prosperous times are ahead after we get through this bizarre semi recession inflation weirdness.
