Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Will there be any impact on IT and overtime charging ?

Being IT as a cost center, will there be any impact too ? Q IT is already a very lean org., I
have to work 12+ hours regularly to meet the business expectations.

I've been in QC IT a while....over the years they have continued to chop us down to basically a Skelton team...and keep adding more and more tasks and roadblocks for us to help the end user...alot of us are in charge of an entire campus and have to be able to fix everything while being scrutinized for SLA times....SD it keeps adding so much un needed cr-p that makes trying to get anything done for the user a hasstle....don't even get me started about these POS WOS Cisco is trying to push to everyone they are the biggest POS ever....alot of us just want to help the end user...but are hands are tied by so many stupid policys.

Lot of hating on oneIT here from people who forget that IT took cuts at every reduction in the last decade to protect core engineering. Critically understaffed in places, but it's worth it as protecting our engineering base kept Qualcomm profitable, right? 🙃

@1bwe+1o0h5ynX There are more to it. Just not closing tickets. You need to understand first why tickets are created and closed. Between these two events we earn money, enable someone else to earn money and offer high level satisfaction - it's resolved !

You mean just clicking close on every ticket you receive takes you 12 hours a day?

to everyone their own...! it div should also get approval for advanced systems along with adaptation time. You cant change working process with assumption of zero downtime factored in your approvals. can something be done about multiple bloatware on laptops. example netskope, forcepoint, tanium.... cleaning these up will also free up some staff and hierarchical levels.

@1jxs+1o0h5ynX,
You should be joining one of the IT all hands to realize the rapid IT contributions and value additions. If you do not see much fancy , new gen IT applications around you that doesn't mean it's a useless org - its just because to keep our budget low and help grow the margins for Q. You know, by deploying advance systems we could increase full organizations efficiency - but then people like you will hesitate adopting that due to learning curve. Many new things we couldn't do because of adoption and cost challenges!
Though we have the similar skill sets and talents like engg. org, we are less paid but generating higher value like any engg. org.

Visit us and don't say useless ! Work hard and tell us your org needs.

IT is freaking useless and justify their existence by inserting blockers to progress. They’re uninterested in moving things forward with any sense of urgency.

Number of employees to support reduce, IT also reduces. Bosses are chilling out in IT. Only the end user support team works, everyone else has very little to no work.
