Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum forgets one thing

The more they get rid of older employees through layoffs, the more institutional knowledge is lost. People who are retiring will transfer their knowledge to those who will stay behind, but those who are being kicked out, not so much. This will come back to bite us in the behind in a major way.

While I agree with another post that "everyone is replaceable" the knowledge that is needed in the "gap" between the old guard and the new (mostly offshore) guard is not given any thought. I think this points to a short term reward goal mentality while at the same time convincing themselves that offshore labor will net out the same results with less cost over time and that there will be no degradation in results. Time will tell.

They don't care. Their C suite requested everyone to document how all the reports are being processed, so they can lay you off and live off the document you created

We are already getting hammered in our department. There are simply not even resources to keep up with workload at this point. Not a great way to run a business.

In my decades of business dealing I have learnt, "EVERYONE is replaceable". It is that some hurt more and some may require multiple FTE. Those are a lose/lose. If I owned the company I would first offer those elders close to retirement age, "Decreased days/pay" for x years of transitional service. Make it a win/win, be upfront. No business can thrive without trust. This site does bring us down.
