Either dissolved or merged into lab...

Wasn’t even aware there was a design center or staff anymore. Didn’t we eliminate the CDO role a long time ago? It wasn’t apparent what design team was doing anyhow and the contract workers all disappeared years ago.

Was design hit harder than other functions? There were cuts and reorgs in the US.

Companies focused on innovation and product development need designers, those focused on commodities and margins don't.

"a bunch of hipsters with ironic mustaches..." - tell me you know nothing about design without telling me you know nothing about design

Just because you can make it sticky or x x better doesn’t mean anyone wants to buy it. Wake up.

If you get rid of the R&D there are no products to work a design for.

For existing products, you can only update your packaging so often. It costs $$ to redesign and reset all the equipment that prints and makes the packaging.

No work = no job

This must be about the champaigne and caviar tape dispenser designers as opposed to the meat and potato capital equipment and controls designers. That group was handed some pretty nice digs as part of the first phase of the quad interior design; bold colors, sweeping curves, see thru conference rooms.

Why did design exist in the first place?

A bunch of hipsters with ironic mustaches drinking coffee and tooling around on their Mac books in some dingy pit with wood paneling and carpeted walls.

Look at the stuff the design lab touched -- stuff like cutesy tape dispensers and bright Post-It colors. Did any of it sell or was it all just given away in the halls back when we were all in office?

Classic post. Some pinpoint drama happens but the poster thinks the entirety of the company sees it happening. Instead of any details just fans the little fire in their cave thinking everyone will see and agree with the injustice of it all. Meanwhile the readers are looking around going wtf is this person talking about.

As John McClane famously said, “Welcome to the party, pal.”
