Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Macys needs to invest in their current stores instead of new stores!!

With all these smaller format Macy’s stores opening, I scratch my head. I know quite a few of currently open Macy’s locations that are a dump. Remodel and make the stores more visually appealing, add more inventory so there’s no empty space. You’re just making the company look bad to not only customers but vendors when you do that.
Therefore, when I see the news of new stores opening I get confused. I mean, are they just trying to get ahead and replace old locations about to close? That would make sense to me.

Macys doesn’t seem to handle these things correctly except for their larger stores. Walk through and you will see. This company is not what it used to be even 5-7 years ago. A lack of staffing is really hurting these sites. Sometimes I wonder if they want to stay in business. It is very frustrating as a former employee and now vendor/customer when you need help it is very hard to find someone. I’m sure some other retailers are similar but Macys is trending the way of Sears with less traffic and caring.

La Cumbre has a few years left. Is Ventura next?

Start with the Ventura CA Macy's. The place looks like a dump.

Deferred maintenance is the phrase of the day at Macy's. We have cut our facilities teams and placed the remaining open jobs on hold. We have chillers breaking down all over the place due to not having enough team members to get into stores to do the needed maintenance on systems that are 40 years or older. We have stores where people are complaining daily about high temps and we have fans at the registers, it looks like a dollar store. Forget about basic upgrades like carpet and paint, expense cuts related to our every challenging business is making shopping at our stores in the summer time a real misery and the pulse survey started today, should be interesting what the sweaty employees at these stores will have to say about their well-being.

Even if they do spend money fixing up older stores it’s never going to be complete. For example when the whole G100 remodel happened at my store they pick & chose which carpet to replaced!! Don’t get me wrong we were grateful for some upgrades but I didn’t understand why we had fancy new carpet on one pad & across the aisle filthy ratty carpet on the other.

Just a thought how about going back to what we had and the way we worked before Jeff took over and ruined Macy's

If there’s a new Market by Macy’s opening, that means they are getting ready to close the nearby full line stores

New stores are almost exclusively Market locations and don't compare to existing department stores in size, assortment, or expense. Macy's will continue to close stores with aging physical plants and opening Market locations helps offset the loss in revenue and greatly decreases the overheard of the operation.

All the remodels in the world won't change the fact that retail of the Boomer generation is a thing of the past and as stores continue to see a decline in sales and online continues to grow, investing in new, smaller and more productive locations is the future of the company.
