Hi-light Reel: BBB Customers

Now that operations are winding down….what are some of your favorite [ironic/sarcastic] things that customers have said over the years. Have fun with it!

I’ll start:

C: “I want the one (usually art) from up top shelf because those haven’t been touched!”

Customer; when a customer buys item(s) every month and returns them and wants a new one. Just because they wanted to keep it new.

And if they did not have a receipt, they would get a store credit, then at that point, make small transactions under 10.00 to get cash back until they received all their money back in cash. Just before they walk off they will always make a smart comment!

I have always wondered why every bbb customer all acted the same way? Were they a cult lol ???

One of many ongoing reasons that may have lead the company to do out of business.

At 53 we were next to a Petsmart. We would have dogs in there constantly, but usually the lap type that would NEVER BITE ANYONE who would lunge for your hand.

One day we had some lady in the place on hard side making a ragout with one of those hyper expensive Dutch ovens. Our ASM was around her table, Making sure she had everything she needed and it smelled like a great stew.

A woman came past with a little mutt inside her handbag. It let out a bark when it caught a whiff.

My ASM was gobsmacked. And she was a good manager. I was working samples at WM that day and she warned me to keep the woman with the dog away from any open food.

The person who talked about toilets does not recall 2016. We were actually reamed out on a shop for not pushing the website when one of the paid survey people asked for a snow blower. True story. You may have been played as well.

Never say NO, I guess. But who the he-l buys a snow blower without seeing it in person?

So if this was during the time of the paid shopped customers, it is possible that they caught you. They caught us and we had multiple 101 shops at 53.

You will need to hear from the guy who had been hard side lead at 53 to believe it, but YES, we did have a guy return a set of pots and pans that he had used for 10 years but no longer wanted. And the SM gave him his money back. You can tell me that is BS but I was there when he did it.

I was covering hard side from WM when the guy brought in about 10 pots and pans in a huge sack and poor J did not know what to do.

Naturally it was taken to corporate and naturally they gave the guy a refund. This was about 2018. And you wonder how we knew this place had 5 years at most back then? You cannot sustain these losses.

I was always amazed when a grown a-s 50 yr old adult woman came in not knowing her own bed size. How the heck did she get this far in life and not know a simple thing like that??

Customer (and her mom) couldn't "find" the 39.99 item on the 50% off chart and located me 2 departments over. I sarcastically mentioned it was 40 bucks, so would be 20 dollars at the register. She wandered off.....still confused. What a maroon!

I found a baby crawling in an isle once, no parents to be found- a literal baby.. I scooped it up and went to the service counter with it in my arms- what kind of parent leaves their baby crawling around and doesn’t know it’s not next to them? It took almost five whole minutes to see the parent slowly walk up to the front after I paged them saying lost baby at front desk please check your party is with you! Seriously! I wanted to call the cops no sense of urgency on the parents part at all

@7jxp+1nsvshyr not new and not a tiny store…they would be looking for specific scents that only bath & body works carry. They have a whole cult following. A glade plug-in is DEF not the same🤣

@6wjt+1nsvshyr You must be either new or from a tiny store - my store used to have both Glade and Yankee Candle outlet plugins for years.

The amount of times I had men wander through the store during Christmas & Mothers Day looking for “those little scent things you plug in the wall.”
I’m sorry sir, we’re not Bath & Body Works

I had a customer call to make a complaint that an alarm clock she purchased was supposed to be grey not red. I grabbed the same alarm clock she purchased while she was on the phone. I opened the box and it was wrapped in red plastic bag. I explained to her that once she would take it out of the protective plastic bag she would see that it was a grey alarm clock. She told me how stupid and confusing we were for putting a grey alarm clock in a red bag.

I remember that one time I was working receiving, and an unmarked box came off the pallet. Against better judgement, we cut it open, and lo what did jump out but a half dozen spootie-wonkles! Yea, I did say they were spootie-wonkles! And lo did they jump out of the box and onto the table to begin their infernal irrelevant rants! While my coworkers covered their ears, screaming in agony, I was unphased because, quite honestly, I couldn't care less about anything by that point. I simply picked up the nearest rubber mallet, and they disintegrated as I bopped them on the nose, one by one. I was told I was a hero that day, and my manager even gave me a $50 gift card. Of course, this was back in 2021 when our gift cards were worth something. Amen, Dear Lord!

I didnt really notice the guy was different and when she gave her name I said you have a registry here with (I said day #1 mans name). She turned red and denied it was her registry. Man #2 gave her an interesting look...

The “deer in headlights” look every time I ever told a customer how many panels it would take to cover their window.

From this spring: customer approached customer service to return 2 curtain panels out of 6 she had ordered. Also wanted to do coupon adjustment on the 4 curtains she was keeping. I started the return and the coupon adjustment and finally looked at customer and told her I was almost done. She thanked me and then asked if I could tell her how much money she was going to owe BB&B. At that point I had to remind her that she would be getting money back from us, not her owing us money. I spent the rest of the day just shaking my head.

This woman came in to return a baking sheet she had bought in 1998. She had her receipt, never been used. We called every manager that was on the floor that day to just look at it.

Ended up doing a coupon adjustment for the price and returning it back to her card. But it was insane to see.

One customer at 53 called in a threat of a black man with a g-n to DG cops. Apparently our good hard side worker wasn't paying her enough attention so she snuck into the bathroom and made the call. I don't know if they ever caught her.

either them looking for something 'from the ad', without having an ad, and without actually telling you specifically what they're thinking of; or them insisting we carried something i knew we didn't, because they or a family member/friend 'saw' it in 'our store' a few months ago

i worked in receiving, if something came in the building, i touched it, scanned it, sorted it, and probably backstocked it too, i can ASSURE you we have never carried that 😂

Almost 19 years with bbb so I have too many to mention.
But my favorites have been men who come in looking for stuff you would go directly to Home Depot for! Seriously had a guy come in looking to buy a new toilet! Then when I said we didn’t sell toilets in store, he blank stared me and asked where he would buy a toilet??

When the customers would ask me if I knew what certain things were. Ex: Do you know what a shower caddy is? Do you know what linens are? Do you know what a dust ruffle is?

Me: No Wh--e, I was raised In the middle of a barn! Besides how do you think this junk made it to the shelf?
