Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

Dear Leaders

I know people will rip the RTC themed weekend train wreck, but for me it was just painfully clear that none of you actually believe in any of this cr-p and that’s why it comes off so poorly. You’re likely being told you have to do this so you’re doing the best attempt to eat the tu-d like the rest of us. This is why you’re at home and why you had to grasp at straws and read off a script to make it seem like you’re so excited for water cooler chat. We can’t say we love you right now, but we get you’re just trying to get a paycheck like everyone else.

Just do us a favor… at least get us that 401k back.

BTW, that accidental debrief email from CM was 100% staged. Oops? Come on.

So show up 3 days a week around 9am. Stuff face full of free lunch. Fog everyone over in terms of what you really contribute by tagging on to endless meetings that you have no business being a part of. Bolt out the revolving doors at 4pm. Such a hard life.

I discussed today's events with a senior leader in my department and they told me the decision ultimately came from JES influencing CM and JS. DG fought incredibly hard in meetings to have his vision for "purposeful presence" become reality, but he was ultimately overruled and to be honest his tone lately has indicated a sense of defeat.

It will be saddening to how much attrition this results in, intentional or not. We're going to lose many great talented people with strong domain knowledge.

Agree with OP. A coworker complained about how it seemed tone deaf and disingenuous and my response was probably because it is. You can tell no one in the room was genuinely excited about return to campus.

I think we all just really want to know how the debriefing meeting went.

One thing I learned today was that covid and commute times only impact New York employees. I guess the rest of the world has never experienced either of those. Such a unique situation they have in NYC. What a slap to the face of everyone in Milwaukee.
