The people running the company and in HR now, deciding cuts etc, are also the ones now rewarding themselves retention incentives. Don’t put your faith in them. The people with power do not have your best interests as their top priority. So self serving it is unfortunate.

Agree, they are the boss for a reason, keep the assets in line till they are a liability and not become themselves.
Your boss is not your friend.
