It has been 4 years since the pharmacy scourge. Now practically every pharmacist is looking for a door out and nobody new wants to come.

CVS to cut 5000 corporate jobs. 7-31-23. Sure doug will pick up on this.
I’ve read this kind of stuff on this forum before. Much of it is sour grapes from former associates that hold a grudge because something happened they didn’t like and just can’t get beyond it.
The pharmacy is indeed changing. With the huge population of baby boomers now needing more meds, yes, we’ll see automation in pharmacy. It has to happen. The law requires a licensed pharmacist to be involved in the process, so if anything, the prevailing idea is that the need for pharmacists is increasing, and there’s metrics to support that.
Ok, this has been discussed many times, but here’s what happened some years ago. Remember when Walmart had this big idea to put nursing stations,PA’s, nurse practitioners and other medical related services in the store? Evaluation of the way it would play out meant we’d need 60% more pharmacists to support the additional script load. So a bunch of hiring happened to bring in more pharmacists. Then, the strategic plan changed and the expansion was put on delay. At the same time, other competitors, like CVS and Walgreens put their expansions in place and you can see them now.
Anyway, Walmart had a surplus of pharmacists so some were laid off. They all got lucrative severance packages. Now at the same time, salary associates are evaluated against their peers and those that were rated low (for any number of reasons, such as low work performance, behavior issues, attendance issues, professional knowledge, ability to take work direction…. and of course, there’s some that simply didn’t get along and were undesirable associates) were laid off at the same time.
It’s easy to understand why these associates were laid off. Some were good people and good pharmacists but we had too many and some were, well….. they weren’t good pharmacists.
This is what happened and why. It doesn’t matter how many times someone says it didn’t happen this way. It did.
It won’t be long before the AI bots take over in pharmacies. Practically everything behind the counter can be automated. You may have a pharmacist and 1 or 2 other associates behind the counter. Staffing will soon be cut in half.
Anytime somebody points out Walmarts depravity a croonie troll tries to justify how disgusting they are. As for polls saying pharmacist are more satisfied, you should just talk to a few. They are turning over pharmacist like leaves in the wind. They had to decrease hours just to try and satisfy the staff and they are still leaving. If you remember during the Covid shut down vision center associates worked in pharmacies. Not one vision center associate asked to stay in the pharmacies anywhere in the country.. Why is that, because it just plain sucks. The reason they got rid of pharmacist 4 years ago was because they were old and had been with the company a long time. They had too much pto and were making way too much money. Over 70% of them were over 55 and had 20 years in. When the PTO system went in affect pharmacist went from 120 vacation hours to 280 to 320 hours. This essentially put targets on their backs. The PTO system was rumored to be mandated by the government and Walmart hated it. So much for loyalty and respect.
Everyone in your store? Come on you can’t be that d-mb. The poll targeted people they knew would provide a positive outlook, you’re blind and naive if you don’t see it.
No, that’s not true. Everyone was offered the survey. Job satisfaction has increased.
To the person that said job satisfaction has increased 3 years straight…the poll select associates for that survey, you truly can’t be that naive.
It’s true. There were some pharmacy HR actions that were driven by undesired associates. There was a lot of shrink going on. There was some extremely poor service and internal guidelines were not being followed. There’s a lot of liability involved so keeping a bad associate, especially in the pharmacy, isn’t a good option.
Actually, according to the numbers, Pharmacy positions at Walmart are in high demand. Job satisfaction has increased 3 straight years.
The pharmacy actions from years ago were primarily to get rid of poor performing associates and many that were just plain undesirable. There had to be a resource action to get the sucky guys out. That’s the truth.
A good example of the walmart-doug future for associates. You will work less and be paid more. The plans are being executed.
