Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Job offer I received

I got an offer that I like, BUT the company had layoffs less than two months ago. Now I'm not sure what to do. Logically, if they just had layoffs, it should be good news for me. Most likely they won't have more for a while. But would any of you leave one company that has constant layoffs for another that just had a major round? It seems counterproductive in a way.

Most ex-q in apple. Heavily referral based for Sr positions.

Depending on which company: for example Amazon has a very bad work environment and you will leave on your own. They won't need to lay you off.
Facebook is not stable. They don't have a foot in the door and they layoff like no tomorrow.
Apple is hard to get into but they rarely layoff.

I got a job offer from McDonalds. But the people are nice, honest, hard working with integrity. Totally different class of people. I'll take them over any of the sh!thead managers at Dairy-Q.

It depends on the new company and where the layoffs happened in the company. If it's a small company with a niche market then recent layoffs are a big red flag. They likely lay off and hire all the time. That smacks of a volatile situation that you probably don't want to be in.

But if it's a larger company then it's not as big a deal. Qualcomm lays off people all the time, a few here and a few there (and sometimes larger layoffs that you can see with WARN). They have done this before while hiring in other areas. Point being if it's a bigger size company and they had layoffs in marketing or finance and you're hiring in as an engineer then it's probably not a big deal.

Take the job before everyone else gets laid in the next quarter.

You are cheap labor to them… but may be expensive labor to Qualcomm…. Roll the dice and find out … or leave and play it safe
