Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Enough’s enough

18 years and I walked off the line today. Why? DEI hypocrisy.

We have a new female plant manager who is a total bully. And I mean the petty, juvenile kind that makes everyone sick to be around. After weeks of unnecessary abuse, I finally had to speak with HR about the obscene behavior and harassment. Keep in mind I’m a veteran and biker, I know how to take sh!t.

What was HR’s answer: “you can’t be harassed because you’re not a member of the protected class.” Word for word.

DEI my @ss. We support everyone, unless you’re a straight, white, male.

Good luck to you all, and God help you.

Said Irvine, but doesn’t look like they have a female plant manager.

Huh. The comment asking where this happened and the response have vanished. Weird!

No one is saying the plant manager was a failure due to being female. The point is that a straight, white man cannot be considered harassed because the are straight, white men. Which only enables this manager to continue the behavior.

Please read instructions completely before assembling…

I am really sorry this happened to you, you should be protected from this type of behavior in the workplace. HR should be held accountable for how they responded to this. I encourage you or your team to take action on it.

It seems like it’s a 3M issue regardless of DEI initiatives. We likely have equal if not more white males in similar positions doing the same thing.

yes both male and female managers can be poor, they follow the mm playbook and its not lost on workers that only they (managers) can further only their own careers. After Covid our new plant manager(male) came in , the workers had worked hard through the pandemic and were rewarded with a 0.7 % payrise, just because the incoming manager wanted to flex his muscles and trod on the already low morale workers, really not a great judgement . Anyway Karma has a great way of saying enough is enough. So Kebab , if you are listening , see you at the gate in August

Oh, so the “ plant manager who is a total bully. And I mean the petty, juvenile kind that makes everyone sick to be around” is because it’s a female. No male plant manager would ever be a bully, right? Or petty, or juvenile, right? And no male plant manager would make everyone sick to be around, right?

There are some poor bosses/leaders, period. I’ve had and seen roughly the same percentages of great and poor male and females bosses over a 36 year career.

most people are moving with the times, the problem is a minority who the other minority keep the cut from ever healing , just get on with life and look after your own feelings and be knid so it is not much to ask. We are all getting shafted by governments around the world and social media determining 85% of under 30s daily lives. We live in a truly messed up world so enjoy the little time you get on it

…moreover… while I don’t want OP to get harassed in the workplace, some of the BS in this comments section is a fxcking embarrassment and I’m ashamed to be affiliated with some of you.

Looks like I found the thread of old white guys feeling butthurt that they’re not exclusively surrounded by other old white guys.

DEI for the sole sake of DEI isn’t great… but y’all need to look in the mirror and understand you own some of the problems too.

Roast me.

Equity, on its face, is socialism. I support Equality and merit.

Happened to me only a few days ago here at MMM. This is a very big issue, promoting based on DEI and not on who is actually the best person for the job. It comes down to who checks the most boxes. 1 of the many many reasons 3M is sinking in the swamp…

My manager only got their position for the same reasons. This person is also an abusive bully and has a history of abusive behavior. HR does not care. Ethics and Compliance does not care.

I was given advice a long time ago about HR. Their first interest is to protect the company, then protect the executives, then protect your manager. So, if you think they are on your side when you bring something to them, think again. HR is absolutely useless.

3M used to be an old boys club, now that’s changing and the old boys don’t like it.

At the same time, 3M used to be very successful.

People over Profits, even if the idea puts people out of work and bankrupt the organization.

Yep, I had an open req for 2 months and we found the perfect candidate for the role. Could I make an offer? No. Not enough DEI candidates had applied. Soon after the req was closed and my team was hobbled for a year at least.

It’s a sad comfort to know this is happening all over.

We’ll have to see how valuable those Ethics Awards are when the bankruptcy court comes looking for assets to sell!

I honestly support equality, but it needs to be EQUAL. I work at HQ and there are SO many under qualified and arrogant DEI people in power positions.

Just hire the best person for the job, even if that happens to be a white man!

But hey, we gotta land the Annual Ethics awards.

Now over to Stan with local news:

“3M to pay 12 Billion to settle forever chemical pollution”

DOH!

To: Tired of the BS
Looks like you’re based in a plant and I empathize with you. I was a 20+ year business manager and absolutely feel your pain from an HQ experience. Moved my family to St. Paul years ago with a well defined game plan for performance based advancement. After a few years when the time came to take the next step, I had exceeded my goals, significantly grew the business, and developed a talented pool of direct reports. And then it happened… a less qualified, under performing “check the box” person came on the scene when the next job came up. This person had a terrible track record, questionable industry knowledge, and a history of frustrating people who depended on them. 3M HR implemented their DEI priorities and promoted this person into what I thought was my next job (based on the plan) to hit their performance goals and I was the odd person out. The person I’m referring to spent the next 4-5 years “effing” the business up but had job protection due to the boxes they checked. Woke activist HR management is ruining this company by “death of 1,000 cuts.” It has to end!

Bossy, sorry I feel for you. This DEI is a total bullsh-t and eventually MMM will pay.. take a good look at Medtronic - they got drunk with DEI cool-aid and is now in shambles.
