Thread regarding VMware layoffs

last 4 hires in my segment were diverse - a bad sign

the last 5 hires in my group now have been 'diverse' - the latest even checking multiple boxes. before calling me bad names - let me state that there is nothing wrong with people who are 'diverse'. but it says that either we are now hiring just on diversity or that we are not getting enough candidates because statistically 5/5 is not possible unless one or both of these are going on.

it is not a good sign either way if most people are leaving and if we are not replacing based only on merit or that we are not getting enough candidates. those with experience are leaving in droves - 2 more senior leaders this week too in my group that i know of. we do not hear about a lot of the non-leaders.

Worker bees are not diverse… no company in big tech is.

Let's focus on the working bees who are diverse rather than in the very non-diverse Senior Leadership, including MD, the dudes at Silver Lake and PG who got us where we are.

Cry me a river.

Follow the money.

VPs get more money for more diverse hires.

Now we have more diverse hires.

Nobody in their right mind (and alternatives) would start at VMware these days with the Broadcom situation - and - there is a real push by HR and Mgmt to increase the DEI mix of the employee base, so it is likely a mix of:

  1. Candidates having no other alternative than VMware to cash a paycheck until they are made redundant by Broadcom.
  2. VMware conducting selective discrimination to increase staff diversity mix so "leadership" can have one last "feel good" story to take with their golden parachute drop.
  3. Mgmt in many cases using the DEI agenda to cover up/gloss over the fact they (the managers) are incompetent, don't care about the staff, and conduct themselves in ways not fit for the business.

VMware like all other corporations, doesn't care about you, your beliefs, ideas, character or integrity but will try to make you believe they do, until they don't need you anymore and can you for the next best thing. Thousands are going to have the rudest awakening of their lives when this deal goes thru and they see the black heart of the VMware machine behind the green curtain...

Wow, you're not even trying to hide it. It's amazing how people feel empowered to just announce bigotry these days.

So is your problem they are 'diverse'?
Or is it they can't do the job due to lack of experience / skills?

Because you immediately lead with 'were diverse' rather than they are not suitable for the role. If they were not 'diverse' but giving the same performance (or lack of) would you be here posting the same message?

They were hired because they can do the job, plenty of non-diverse mediocre candidates in the industry who’ve made it very senior and don’t see much complaining on that. If you specifically think one of these “diverse” candidate are not good at an aspect of their job, judge them on that capability and have that conversation with them directly.

also, i notice most of them are new to the role, and do not come with experience like you usually see in the roles. it really feels like we are having to settle on replacements.
