Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

DG’s purposeful presence mandatory 3 days

DG talked a great game about being in when it made sense using your educated brain. Now we know he was all talk and just a pawn for DR and CM. Question all of the things he has talked about since his arrival.

Watch for your attendance records, who can get perfect attendance? We need transparency of who is in the office, senior leaders should disclose the records. NM has now evolved into High School.

I like the idea but you will be unfairly punishing your immediate manager in the process by giving low scores on the Pulse survey. I don't think that is the desired outcome. SLT will just have that person take the fall.

The battery will not do anything on its own. It is illustrative of general work slowdown/nonsense that can be implemented to show that RTC creates more problems than it solves.

So here is my response, as an M-level, to the mass rebellion:

  • Yes, definitely keep your workload within 40 hours per week. You should be doing this anyway. If you need to work after hours, trim some time in other places.
  • If you do not have laptop battery, you'll be advised to find another flex space that has power. CCL, the lobbies, etc. This will not do anything.
  • Hit those pulse surveys HARD. Seriously, HR means it when they say they read each and every comment. Make those scores drop. SLT relies on these numbers heavily and will definitely see that. This is probably the best thing you can do to show your dissatisfaction. Also, do the EXI surveys, if anything you'll earn Bravos.
  • A core goal leadership has cascaded down from the top is to have this RTC happen with as little attrition as possible. Tell your manager or HR if you feel like leaving. Odds are you can be considered for remote work under the new process.

Haha. Ok, Jack Sparrow. Let us know when you’re ready to step away from the basement computer and lead the revolution.

A blanket refusal will not work. 2 many people. What will work is:

  • Complete compliance with policy. Work is only done from the office between 9 AM & 5 PM. No extra help for offshore resources that clock out at 10 or 11 AM, etc.
  • Allow laptops to run out of battery after 3-4 hours and then be 'unavailable until recharged' as access to power will be an issue with a 2:1 worker to desk ratio.
  • General work slowdown, the culture requires more chit-chat. Embrace it.
  • The pulse surveys. Answers must become negative regarding ability to do job effectively, managers granting flexibility, net promoter score, etc.
  • Flip your LinkedIn to be open for work. HR monitors that stuff. Need to see a lot of potential attrition.

What if 4000 people coordinate and organize to work from home and just not show up? What happens then? Can’t let thousands go at once. Also d-mb time to do this before Annual Meeting when people can just gripe and complain to our money makers.

Just had a meeting with my teams manager and can also confirm the three day edict. What bothered me most was the loss of team autonomy to decide what days work best for the team. At least 70 percent are full time remote employees which means sitting on zoom.

Then leave. But you won’t, because you can’t. Looking forward to another year of your boring negativity, though!

I guess equality is in the eye of the one who is talking. NM is now operated by NYC, joke. Will we see ELG and SLT attendance records?

The company is now a rat race get in get out make your money.

The RTC policy states Milwaukee employees must be in the office 3 days per week and NYC employees are only required to be in the office 2 days per week. More preferential treatment for NYC.

So my manager just announced the RTC policy to all of us:

  • Mandatory M/T/W days in office starting 9/5.
  • Will be tracked with badges and consequences for not following this policy.
  • They still don't know how they are handling the limited desk situation.
  • They still don't know how they are going to deal with the limited amounts of parking in the area.

He fills the pawn roll for CM and DR well. Just another yes man just gets ran over. He will be here 18 months at the most just get vested with ltip and gone.

Sad we thought he had potential and a spine, big J0hn always has his way.

He announced to his esd leaders the mandatory in the office from his house. How ironic, don’t you think? Like NM senior leaders and politicians do as I say not as I do.

An actual conversation with a Senior Director:
Me: "It'll be interesting to see how our tech strategy will be under DG. He seems down to earth and like he's really fighting for what makes sense."
SD: "He'll be out in two years like the rest."

DG will be gone in 2-3 years after ripping/robbing millions of dollars - like many before him. He’s all talk but hey he’s paid a heck lot of money for talking lol
