Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Stranger than fiction

I recently bumped into a gathering of former 3M “leaders” and was told “hey, when I find a new role, I’d consider hiring you.”

I have a job, thanks though.

It then dawned on me that the same self-absorbed narcissists that caused me to leave 3M are now posturing themselves into new organizations to ruin. God help us all

Networking is for career advancement. Not for making friends… duh!

I suppose it’s nice to help people, but I can’t say I don’t want anything in return. I’d like to be shown some respect. I left 3M a year ago and the only time someone wants to “network” is when my company has openings. Outside of that, people don’t care. It’s not that I had poor relationships while at 3M, it’s more that most people were not sincere and only wanted needed something me or my team could provide. But we’re all “staff” and it shows whenever I run into any former or current 3M leader.

Shocker: your old title doesn’t mean anything anymore. Stop acting like you’re special.

Well, they might not last so long at their new firms.

I left recently. If I see open roles at my new company that I can help former colleagues with a warm introduction to - of course I will help. Many good 3M people are looking or soon to be looking and if I can help of course I will offer - not expecting anything in return
