I wonder how it feels to be a current 3M executive, knowing that their contribution to society is to roll over and play done, and dismantle an iconic company. In the end, it will have been on their watch, listening to external consultants who have no loyalty to anyone except their contracts. I'd pity myself that I failed so many people--employees, customers, shareholders. They didn't seem to even put up a fight. Just call in the clean up squad and have to put on their resume they were the ones who closed the doors. Oh, but wait. They will gently glide down to the patio next to their pool in some luxurious gated community and likely never even blink an eye or shed a tear for something so good that went from great to nothing.
Say cheese for the picture perfect business school case study of ruining a great company.
