Thread regarding 3M layoffs

What a legacy these execs will carry for all time

I wonder how it feels to be a current 3M executive, knowing that their contribution to society is to roll over and play done, and dismantle an iconic company. In the end, it will have been on their watch, listening to external consultants who have no loyalty to anyone except their contracts. I'd pity myself that I failed so many people--employees, customers, shareholders. They didn't seem to even put up a fight. Just call in the clean up squad and have to put on their resume they were the ones who closed the doors. Oh, but wait. They will gently glide down to the patio next to their pool in some luxurious gated community and likely never even blink an eye or shed a tear for something so good that went from great to nothing.

Say cheese for the picture perfect business school case study of ruining a great company.

Note, no names used here, no bad words. Don't erase it.

They just the (you know what) care! They are getting their money. Also their exercise by shoveling BS and graves for those that are in anguish by being let go or those that have stayed. All in turmoil! Except those with millions of 3M money.

Execs try to sell a culture of loyalty to 3M (“hire to retire” and “we’re all 3Mers”), which many of us bought, all while their loyalty is in their position. I bought it and was laid off last year after many years. Exec positions are transferrable since they will move on to other companies, meanwhile you build your identity around 3M and the work that you do. Now that I’m out, it is abundantly clear that we all must do what’s right for ourselves and our families, and no longer have blind allegiance to any corporation (unless you owe it yourself).

None of them give two sh!ts about legacy or history, or how their decisions affect other's. There is not an Executive from Mike Roman on down that cares about 3M Employees. The only thing all of them care about is fattening their personal bank accounts and stripping out as many Assets or Opportunity's for themselves. This is today's corporate America, ruthlessness, greed and agression. Why even pretend otherwise?

There was a silly (in a fun way) 1980’s movie with Michael J. Fox called “The Secret of my Success.” For those who have seen it, do you remember the scene where the company’s hapless execs were jogging on the HQ rooftop chasing after the inept CEO? Feels like fiction is becoming reality.

The arrogance from leadership, particularly out of SIBG EMD and PSD would be embarrassing except they are destroying so many lives. The pathetic post portrait of Ray Eby left out how many thousand + people he laid off of his tenure. After all of their "team building" they have destroyed the options value and livelihoods of thousands of families.

Someday, someday...when they are looking their grandchildren in the eye, they will understand what they have done. Shame and regret will be knocking. As the Rush 2112 lyric says "and the meek shall inherit the earth." Insert awesome guitar riff here
....lol

You are mistaken. They will forget 3M the moment they retire. It is such naïveté to think they will feel some sense of remorse.

Not so long ago, 3M was considered bluest of blue chip companies.

Nobody believes me when I point this out.

Disagree. Their egos don’t fit through doorways. They sacrificed nights, weekends, and relationships to get to the executive level and have power and influence.

Yet they are a laughing stock. They don’t have the intellect nor vision to do the job. They’re a disgrace.

Yes they’ll have money, but nothing to be proud of.

They don't think about any of that, they just want the money from their pay, bonuses, stock awards, etc.
