You can see as an example, a certain VP who shares the same name as a well known English musician, a few years ago he opened a satellite office in India for board level design, now the India group has more people than SD.
Only some jobs can be moved. And a lot of the work going to India will go to temps and contractors.
"So what can you do? Just move the board level design to India"
So instead of ordering your PCBs from Oregon like others do, or, if you are saving money, ordering boards from professionals in China, you are willing to give up your job to India? Sure, they will take it, you go on a street, look for a job for months and months, and at the end, they will hire you to their bodyshop for 20% of your original salary and no benefits, to do the same design you originally gave them to do. Does it look appealing to you?
I've worked in a few groups doing board level design starting from schematics capture. Over the years I've seen many PCB houses close shop, it is very expensive now to order PCBs in California in small quantities for design verification, thanks to over reaching environmental protection laws. So what can you do? Just move the board level design to India, as it has been happening.
Anyone heard anything about QCA?
I overheard the multimedia R&D team is going to get hit hard.
Wink Wink most of the employees are H-B1 Visa workers.
there will be no more big layoffs. Irwin's granddaughter is in congress for San Diego so that is our job protection guarantee. As long as Sara is in congress most San Diego jobs are safe as long as you vote and donate to the blue (wink, wink)
we need to move more jobs to India. This is where real work gets done. San Diego workers is only the lickers and posers who take the credit for real work of the Bengaluru.
Serious? Q has strong financials? Can’t you read????????????????????????????????
Q expected to reduce operating expenses amid the global economic slowdown and bloated inventories at smartphone markers.
“Given the current macroeconomic and demand environment, we’re implementing further spending reductions and streamlining operations without losing sight of the significant growth and diversification opportunities ahead,” said Amon. “This is consistent with our commitment to actively manage operating expenses as indicated during our last earnings call.”
Massive layoffs are cost cutting and always have a positive impact if the financials are strong. Qualcomm has strong financials by the way
When I was at QCOMedy, I routinely saw lazy colleagues happy that stuff was shifting to QIPL. Now, the same people, doing nothing , are shocked that the jobs are moving to a lower-cost center.
Seriously, be careful what you ask for.
Massive reductions in workforce can cause a decline in a company's stock value due to the negative impact on investor sentiment. Therefore, layoffs are being strategically scheduled in smaller portions.
