For anyone that's been around previous layoffs and watched others unfortunately be cut or are impacted by this round:
Is the final meeting with your supervisor/their supervisor set the day of and/or last minute? Or is it usually scheduled in advance. Keeping an eye on any irregular meetings added to my calendar
Last June, we were pulled into a meeting that said business update. The meeting was random and not all meetings were consistent across all groups. We were told our last day was in December. However based on the documentation the letter was drafted in January of the same year. I don't know which is worse getting blindsided or knowing my job may be on the cutting block
In order to get severance you need to work a couple more months. Retrain and create workflows
On the big layoff last year for us (infusion side), it was a required teams meeting that we were notified about the day before. It was ran by someone in HR. They read a letter and told us we were safe. It was a very quick meeting. Those getting laid off had a separate meeting. They had to work 2 more months for severance.
Our team was flown out to corporate for a meeting, we didn’t know what for. Everyone kept saying how valuable their work was to the company, they’d never fire us. We sat at a table and when I saw HR walk in I knew we were cooked. Entire team dissolved.
I’d rather be told and able to leave right away
It likely won’t be a random calendar meeting. It will likely come in the form of a random “when you have a minute. Can you stop by or call my office?”
Either a surprise meeting on your calendar for later that day or tomorrow, or an out of the blue call to your cell phone from a high up person. Keep in mind your last day is generally weeks or months away. It is not the day that they tell you. To get severance you have to play by the rules of the severance agreement.

I’ve seen it go both ways over the years. Just another unpredictable element in this unpredictable “cluster”.
