Thread regarding Optum layoffs

I sent a note to my Senator

Sent a note to our Senator today, Just expressing concerns about Americans in an American insurance company that is rolling in profits of American dollars, being laid off in large numbers every Thursday. At he same time more and more Indian and Phillipine workers were being hired by the same org and given access to American health information.

hello?! Moderator? You MUST be working for UHG/Optum. You keep purging posts. Clearly they've paid you to spy on comments and report to the Stasi.

“This is fu----g funny. That's what this is. You wrote your Senator? Good luck with that.”

My Senator is from PA and looks like Senator Stone Cold. Pretty sure he’ll take note from another yinzer. Especially if it’s being super secret and not in the media.

Same. Pointed out that one of the big sticking points when they were negotiating the ACA years ago was the loss of American jobs. So where exactly are these jobs? They are in Bangalore and Manila, along with your protected health information. Guess we’ll see how that turns out, right? Hope Mitch is able to get his sh-t straight with the partial seizures with aphasia. Took me a good while and an $60K bankruptcy. Let them eat cake, he said… Cheers.

And the irony is after 23 years you STILL don't see the error of your ways. It's this 'bury my head in the sand' mentality that allows the id10ts to continue to run the insane asylum.

Yea. These foreign employees have access to our medical information as well as millions of patients. Watch these shyster lawyers scramble when that is announced

This is a healthcare company. The CEO of this company and the head of tech are both non-american. They are from countries that have public health care systems. They are laying off americans in order to get big bonus $. The american healthcare costs will continue to rise as they continue to layoff the very people that will be paying their bonuses. This is not the fault of offshore employees. This is the fault of the american reps in congress that allowed this to happen.

It’s Filipino* if you’re referring to a person’s nationality. But if you’re stating just the country, it’s the Philippines. Anywho, lay offs have been happening since the dawn of time. Nothing new. Even other large tech companies outsourced their jobs. I do feel sorry for anyone that have been impacted. Easy said than done, but just be prepared. Layoffs happens daily across the US. Find a new job and move on.

I also suggested the senator peruse this forum change and united for more information. I do not want my elderly mother having to negotiate her benefits with a non American located in the Phillipines.

Hiring for a promotional position that was promised to me. The job post was written for me. Only reason I didn't get it is I live in the US. Tax subsidies for Ireland mean the company gets a 30% discount on salaries there. Balance probably paid by US or Irish government.
That's not an option for this but was told only way to get promoted in my area is to move to Ireland. I am not moving to Ireland for a job promotion with a US based company I've worked hard at for years. Will end up teaching my new boss about US insurance business. That is in 60 to 90 days because Irish need that much notice to switch companies. And if I'm still there. Looking outside UHG. Plus most likely I am prime candidate now for lay off. Easy for spineless leadership to justify. Business wise how does something like this make any sense. Only us US peons know anything about the business. The questions I get asked daily and the basic things I have to explain to so called leaders.

Yup, no layoffs in Ireland. Teams there are growing and hiring.

I wish that we had the option of paying for another health insurance provider. Our only option at the company store is United Health medical, United Health dental, United Health vision, Optum RX home delivery, Optum Financial, Optum HSA, etc. We shouldn't be forced to subsidize un-American company behavior.
