I can't imagine waking up every morning and having any dignity or self respect knowing I work at the Cengage...

I don't believe that everyone mails it in. Plenty do, but there are many clueless long timers who work themselves into a frenzy of chaos because they don't understand business, markets we serve, or technology.
These are the types that call meetings over and over, argue back and forth about the same issues with every release, and need followups, documentation, etc. for everything in an effort to collect and horde useless information that they do not understand or need.
These misfits don't 'mail it in'. The exert a tremendous amount of effort for nothing and all their labor makes no difference, aside from occasionally bullying people into doing things their way which usually results in a 2000-era product that fails, but they are working hard.
Listen, Cengage is okay, its not Apple or Google, and you should know that going in. Its a great company to bide your time until something better comes along. Managers are cool and they know this. So lets not bash it or take pity on those that work here. We are still having fun on the company dime. Now during more than ever. Everybody knows summers are the best at Cengage!

Anyone still at Cengage has long ago mailed it in and wakes up knowing (and not caring ) that they are simply collecting a paycheck. Not a bad gig if that’s your thing.
I envy you, your current life sounds really dignified - waking up every morning so poor and miserable that the only thing that can cheer you up is thinking about how to outdo your former peers.
