Thread regarding 3M layoffs

It is time for 3M to change

The worst thing for a company is a toxic culture. Employees who are harassed, bullied, excluded, micromanaged and more cannot reach their full potential. Studies have shown a toxic work environment makes employees sick and can even cause PTSD.

3M ignores its Code of Conduct and promotes some of the most toxic people to leadership positions. It is time for 3M to change. Instead of rewarding toxic leaders 3M needs to promote leaders who will help employees reach their full potential. Toxic leaders need to be fired.

This is perfectly said, @1vua+1nT1cYUb. It deserved its own thread.

I went to HR after being screamed at by a fellow coworker (she yelled and blocked the entrance of my cubicle - unprovoked. I was told to not be a wilting flower by hr. The place is a joke.

Please consider yourself lucky you have not experienced workplace harassment, micromanagement, favoritism, abuse and more while at 3M. I have seen it first hand, know of people who left because of toxic leadership (one after only one year at 3M who was a JG 17) and, sadly, know of people who left due to illness from the toxicity. The people I know who left are doing much better now and from what I have been told they are successful in their new companies.

Well, I wasn't developed or protected and certainly not retained. Better luck to others

The last annual report did not reflect all the 2023 layoffs - 8,500+ and continuing to increase - I think at the end of Q2 the 80K is more accurate....The leadership team shared the 80K number during the earnings call with analysts....

The ongoing denial by the sycophants of employee abuse emonstrates the chasm between management and frontline personnel. While not unique to 3M, the utter failure to address legitimate concerns repeatedly raised, shows all freethinking individuals that 3M management is living in the days of yesteryear. Working conditions are intolerable and a national disgrace.

According to the last public annual report:

“Human Capital

On December 31, 2022, the Company employed approximately 92,000 people (full-time equivalents), with approximately 37,000 employed in the United States and 55,000 employed internationally. The ability to recruit, retain, develop, protect, and fairly compensate its global workforce are enablers of 3M’s success. This includes four general categories of focus: Health and Safety; Development; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; and Compensation and Benefits.”

International employees cost less, but the ability to purchase 3M products is in the US.

The target number is ~60,000 employees with cuts continuing until the goal is reached.

In the last earnings call they only reference 80,000 employees. I think we have lost 20K during the Roman Empire...There were 100K when he started....

Leadership starts at the top - there are SVPs who lead with this mentality which empowers those below them to behave the same. I know executives and managers who have left who could no longer tolerate getting thrown under the bus and abused in meetings by SVPs.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but 3M has 90.000 employees, most of whom aren't experiencing this toxic bullying culture you keep insisting is a problem.

It might be happening to you, but it's certainly not a company-wide culture problem.

Real jobs don't tolerate that kind of b.s. Management gets treated just the same if not more critical than employees but this is 3M. Just a clown operation where malicious behavior is acceptable because HR simply su-ks at doing their jobs. No morale courage to do the right thing because they're scared to lose their fancy high paying jobs. Hard to believe some of these losers can sleep at night. Big f u when karma hits.
