Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Calm Down People

Amidst the apprehensions surrounding the recent cost-cutting initiatives, it is important to recognize that these measures are strategically implemented to fortify our financial standing, ensuring sustained success in the long run. It is vital to emphasize that the prospect of layoffs is not an inevitable outcome; rather, these measures are designed to safeguard against such scenarios. Even in the event that they may not yield perfect outcomes, it does not automatically imply that layoffs will come to pass. As highlighted by Clay's email, NOV, remains in a highly robust financial state.

In light of these developments, I urge all of us to collectively embrace a conscientious approach to budgetary matters, fostering a united effort to strengthen the company's financial foundation. By working collaboratively as a team, we can propel our organization towards a prosperous future, wherein the well-being of all is guaranteed. I hold the belief that with dedication and astute decision-making, we can indeed achieve this ambitious goal and usher in a brighter era for our company.

I didn’t need my FIL to help me with anything. Sad thing is, you have to hide behind your keyboard to say this. You know where to find me.

My boss came in the plant today and said they’re taking his company truck away from him at the end of the month. You know they’re getting serious when they go after the managers.

Apparently we just promoted the President of Wellbore’ son in law to Director. Guy can’t even find the coffee maker with a GPS yet they make him a Director? Good thing nepotism isn’t effected by employee cuts.

Please tell me they didn’t cut the Coach’s wine tab. NOV has bought him enough wine to fill 50 li---r stores.

Oh yeah, VERPS are ALWAYS the opening salvo before dr-g testing and layoffs.

Crypt Keeper, if you worked as hard at work as you did on your little novella here, the VERPs wouldn’t be necessary.

That’s not what he said. He said he’s never NOT seen layoffs after the VERPS. Reading is hard.

To the 44 yr guy that said he never seen layoffs following the VERPS, you are wrong! Not only have I seen people turn down the VERP but I have seen those very people get canned shortly thereafter when actual layoffs are happening. There are giving you a decent deal, take it, unless you are b-buddies with top floors nothing is guaranteed.

In the dark realm of layoffs, the four horsemen emerge, their presence dripping with cruelty and callousness. HR, the merciless first horseman, wields the power to shatter lives, implementing the heart-wrenching process with detached efficiency. Legal, the second horseman, coldly brandishes the sword of compliance, ensuring the company's interests prevail while disregarding the human toll it takes. Management, the pitiless third horseman, revels in wielding their authority, making calculated decisions that sacrifice livelihoods for the sake of profit margins.

But it is the bean counters, the sadistic fourth horsemen, who revel in their role as architects of suffering. Armed with spreadsheets as their instruments of torment, they meticulously calculate the cost of human misery, reducing lives to mere numbers on a ledger. Their icy hearts find satisfaction in quantifying the pain and dehumanizing those they deem expendable. In this realm, compassion and empathy are cast aside, replaced by a twisted pleasure in the ruthlessness of their actions.

Together, these four horsemen orchestrate a symphony of cruelty, where the cries of the affected are drowned out by their indifferent laughter. They embody the darkest corners of corporate layoffs, where human dignity is discarded, and the pursuit of profit reigns supreme. In this grim landscape, the cruelty of these horsemen is a chilling reminder of the depths to which organizations can sink, leaving a trail of broken lives in their wake.

This is more in line with what Clay’s email SHOULD have said. Jose’s email was completely misdirected and tone deaf. Both emails were very ineffective in their message and caused unnecessary anxiety throughout the organization.

Yeah, in my 44 years with this company, I’ve never not seen layoffs follow the VERPS.
