Dish Network Lays Off Engineers with no severance

On August 1st management was dragging employees out of the DTC office and telling them that they were being let go due to “reorganization”. Nobody (at my level) has any clue how many were let go, but 80 has been thrown around. they laid people off in the least efficient way possible and made the entire day horrific. throughout the day, your manager may show up at your desk and tell you to pack up. The least courtesy they could have done is just to do it all at once, so that employees weren’t waiting anxiously with a box at their desk.

The layoffs also seemed random with no rhyme or reason. people on large important projects got canned, but so did people on small projects. A mix of poor and good performers as well.

No severance was offered, even to those with the company for 20+ years. Management has not acknowledged the layoff to the rest of the employees. No all team meeting, no memo, nothing. Dish seems to be in some dire financial straits. just look at the stock. If you are still at Dish, you best be sorting out your fastest way out of there.

First off, Dish has never paid severance (possibly to higher ups with Management contracts).

Secondly, Charlie Ergen is a known miser who still signs off on every purchase order (40+ years later).

Thirdly, Dish is in Financial distress as a company (it just merged with EchoStar to starve off the dogs a little while longer).

Lastly, they're certainly not going to start looking out for people leaving their payroll now (in light of points 1 - 3).

Still cannot believe they don’t offer severance. Their legal dept must be eyeballs deep in former employee labor actions.

These id--ts are dumping the entire company into Wireless. They're in debt because of their bad decisions so of course they take that out on the employees, some of whom have worked here for many years. They're gutting the Utah office, and yet they wanna be pi---d off that those of us still around want to work from home. They're just kicking out good talent, and replacing maybe 1/5 of them with sh---y contractors who come in, wreck sh-t, and leave.

Seems the id--t infosec leadership helped pound in the final nails in the coffin. The 5G plan was a desperate farce from the beginning fueled by disconnected executive egos ignorant of the gutting of the core business and customer flight. Thanks to CISO Artie Wilkowsky, his bumbling incompetence exposed Dish to be a hollowed out, rotten load bearing beam that was just waiting to collapse.

Chapter 11 is all but certain by December-January. Run, don't walk.

I guess the Amazon announcement didn’t bump the stock as high as they forecasted…. More layoffs. Good luck to those involved
