How can you buy up 2 companies costing more than $15B and then fire the very people who made those purchase’s possible? It’s sad, if Karen Lynch were to give up her salary for a year all 5k people could keep their jobs. I doubt she’d miss the money.

5000 may be a small percentage of CVS but it is not a small number. What do you mean by middle management? Director/Sr. Director? A few years ago, they eliminated all Supervisor positions.
Aetna seems to be minimally staffed at the local level. Didn't they close Arkansas and move it under another state not too long ago? I suppose they could do more of that but that will leave the employee who remain with a ton of work.

That's entirely possible. It wouldn't be the first time in history that a company acquired a new subsidiary only to shut it down soon afterward. Effective, albeit underhanded, way to eliminate competition (real or perceived).
