Jeff Clarke / Dell now forcing employees into office 3 days each week if living in 1 hr commute. Others further than that are not required. There’s been talk about punishing non conformist with poor performance rating which is inequitable. Most sr and execs are not required due to happen to be just outside the 1 hr range.

From the eWeek article, appeared Chuck thought he would be at Dell for at least the next 5 years. His Apex push
Didn’t work too well for his tenure.

“ Five years from now, I believe we will continue to be at the center of customers’ technology agendas, whatever those agendas are. On the way there, we’re going to help them solve the most pressing challenges that we’re seeing today so we will be at the center of whatever customers are doing. I think that’s the enduring institution that Michael built and that we’re all building together now.”

Wonder if Chuck moving on had anything to do with him pushing Apex and basically customers including people at Dell knowing what it even is.
From an article on CRN website…
“ 200 new customers that joined Dell because of Apex.”
“ For the two years he has spent with the company on the inside, Whitten has been driving the value of Dell Apex to partners and customers.

During Dell Technologies World in May he walked the audience through the largest expansion in services yet to the platform, including integrations with VMware, Red Hat, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.

“We are now the world’s most comprehensive as-a-service and multi-cloud portfolio that spans from the data center to the public cloud and now to client devices,” he told the crowd.

He later drove home the ease of consuming Apex and the modality of its services in a Q&A following the presentation.

“Would you like to buy your infrastructure? Would you like to subscribe to your infrastructure? Would you like to subscribe to your infrastructure with layers of managed services either through us or through a partner? And would you like all of that in a modern cloud experience?” he said.”

Speaking to my Co workers at Dell and asking them about Apex they said they had asked several people as well and could not get an explanation of what it actually does or is for a product offering.
For something the a COO was promoting fro 2 years while at Dell speaks volumes

Interesting recent article from Chuck and “headwinds” is mentioned.

Based on date of article and recent announcement, I think his leaving wasn’t yet planned so something happened. (Let the popcorn munching begin)

I doubt the poor survey had anything to do with it lol We have a Manager that has been getting slammed on the survey every year and he's still a manager. He's been moved to different groups and every new group slams him because he is that horrible, so it just goes to show the Tell Dell means absolutely nothing!

a very large payout from the VMWare acquisition in the wings, some master strategies in play. Who knows we may go private again .

Here's my theory. I'm no where near close enough to the top to know anything for sure, so just my observation.
I believe MD is getting ready to step down as CEO. It doesn't seem like he's been running the company anyway and has already handed over the keys to JC. Just waiting for the right time for the public announcement. Chuck leaving might have been JC wanting to get rid of him, but asked MD do it now so when JC does get announced as the new CEO, he doesn't have to deal with the bad optics of firing his "competition."

"Jeff is next"
I so want this to be true. But knowing how the Old Guard operates, I doubt this will happen. My guess is Chuck was booted out because he was expensive and MD/Board were comfortable cutting Chuck and reverting to the tried and true recipe: JC. Bad news all around

Chuck never appeared to be committed to the team, the Dell team.

Any thoughts on “leadership profile” meaning Chuck does not fit the diversity goals they’ve set?

Chuck being let go, from my reading, is a hint of a change in direction. Chuck was a strategy consultant, and was made COO to help Dell navigate what a post-VMware future would look like.

This, to me, signals that those plans have failed, and Dell is looking for a new direction, or even an exit. I don't believe they would be planning a layoff at this point (although not off the table). Once they have a view of the future, then the right-sizing would come

Well Chuck called a little while ago. He got his severance package all squared away. He’’s coming back over to the house this evening. Any questions you have that I could ask him?

What if he quit because he wasn't a fan of the RTO mandate and also didn't want to come back to office. ;)

Given his last day is 8/18, that would line up with a company wide 8/8 WFR. I was give 10 days when I was WFR’d.

I'm guessing there was some persuasion to leave. It would have said he was leaving to spend time with family or another pursue other endeavors. It did not mention any of that.

He left on his own. The departure date is in the future.

Falling out usually happens immediately.

Good, now do the rest of the useless ELT. Feels like everyone at the top is doing their best to drive the company into the ground and creating problems.

This is great news, he was ineffective and a waste of money. Let's keep the momentum going and clear out the ELT.
