no ones safe
What about central build team? They are safe?
Anything outside of their go-to-market Multi-Cloud story will be at risk. So if you are in or contribute directly to VMware Cloud in some capacity, I'm sure you'll be relatively safe.
I am in NSX and i feel pretty safe.
Yep. Anyone thinking otherwise is sorely mistaken or plain kidding themselves. Head on a swivel
Hock's leadership is notorious for cutting SG&A costs at the companies they acquire.
Meaning, immediate headcount cuts will extend beyond marketing roles. And of course, they'll start top-down and then move rapidly through the org layers. They've invested the time and effort to plan their approach to right-sizing VMW. Huge change is inevitable.
Compared to Marketing, you're in relatively good shape. Hock doesn't appreciated the value of marketing roles. Expect all corporate and product marketing to be 'right-sized'
Can your job be done cheaper elsewhere? For example in India or outsourced to some huge consulting company? If so, you are toast. We don’t need expensive labor at Broadcom - the cheapest will do just fine. Hate to break it to ya… most jobs can be outsourced (poorly) in tech to increase profit. And there is only one strategy at Broadcom - “Profit over People”.
The fact that after 3.5 years of pivotal being acquired folks refers to the “pivotal group” says all one needs to know about how poorly this company is run. Not making excuses for the “pivots” - they largely su-k and are the cause of a great many failures - in particular project mgmt.
In a developer role for Multi-Cloud you will be very safe. The Pivotal area is a totally different story.
It likely depends on what you mean by a ‘devops’ role.
You’re good
