Is it possible for me to be laid off from Q if I'm pregnant or need to take time off for childcare or work from home?

My friend was laid off at Qualcomm while pregnant soooo.....
Most engineering women at Qualcomm at treated pretty well. Why? Because their husbands also work at Qualcomm so they have backup.
Lots of whiners at Q - both men and women. Q treats women very well. Try joining a faang and experience the bro-culture. Have seen 4 letter words used in the presence of women at a faang. Interestingly, women are treated well at Q due to lack of actual demographic diversity which leads to other problems often mentioned in other threads
If you are asking about layoffs, no category is fully protected from being RIF-ed, so they might be laying off people currently working (regardless of being pregnant, or having medical issues, etc.), or even people currently on leave (FMLA, vacation etc.)
If you are asking about firings, there are laws that protect an employee from being fired because of reasons like age, race, gender, pregnancy, so if they wanna get rid of you they usually do that in a more sneaky way (making up some other reason making sure they don't get sued).
If your employer needs to lay people off, and employer is allowed to fire you. Your pregnancy is NOT an absolute guarantee that you will keep your job. Like most Californians, you're an at-will employee and the termination does not violate an employment contract.
You won’t be affected. Women are protected under DEI. Inform your manager and HR are you are going on pregnancy leave. If you get cut You can sue Qcom for discrimination. HR will avoid the lawsuit and therefore not cut you if you inform then that you are pregnant.
Qualcomm is the best bet for women in the world today.
If you're a woman, start packing!
Forget it Jake, it's Men's town!
"qualcomm has a reputation of discriminating against women. They lost a lawsuit in the past. Women will be the first to go!"
Not in DEI land. Major investors have seats on the board. In this day and age they want to see a good DEI report. I wish it was good engineering though, sigh.
Qualcomm does not discriminate against women. Qualcomm goes out of their way to hire women and keep women employed even when the output is horrible.
A real case happened in my office was worse, the lady didn’t get laid off, instead HR asked her to resign.
Chickensh!t Sr Dirs and VPs lay eggs all the time, they don't get laid off.

Are employees who take time off or work from home to provide childcare still at risk of being laid off? What should I do if I can't find childcare?
Yes, your employer is allowed to fire u while you are pregnant or need to take time off for childcare. Like most Californians, you're an at will employee and the termination does not violate an employment contract.
