Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Buildings for Sale

I am hearing through the grapevine that the UHC (and possibly the UHG) buildings on Healthcare Lane are for sale, and consolidating into the Optum buildings.

Any truth to these rumors?

This is not new. UHG as a whole has been not renewing leases as more staff work from home. When I moved from the west coast to Philadelphia, I had 4 office options. Now there are 0. It isn’t about reducing staff, it is just we were only using the space for team meetings every so often and we were wasting tons of money on rent. (GL 27 here, field based but used to keep a cubicle for office days- no longer!)

Correct. 9900 people moving to optum.

It's worth noting that UHG leases the buildings, even if they initially built them. They sell the buildings to someone else and then lease them so it's easier for them to get out of it if they want. Plus they don't deal with the property taxes, etc.

That said, I had heard that the people in the UHG corp HQ are moving to the Optum HQ
