Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Hey Macy's, you need to bring back your VM's because your stores are looking like dumpster fires!

Not only Visual Managers, but colleagues that actually want to be happily employed. Right now you have long standing employees that for some reason are still loyal, you got People Leaders that are not trained properly, floor colleagues that really are not trained in selling and District "leaders" who belittle store management everytime they visit!!! Oh, and don't get me staryed on some of these clueless Store Managers! Frustrating seems to be on every employees head right now. I.S.M. DOES NOT WORK!

Most of the VM’s became SMM’s so they still help out the VC

I would like to know are there limits to what a generalist does? like training a new employee, changing mannies before a visit.setting up tri-stacks when captain's not available, performing mark downs alone in a dept, training people on markdowns, signing two departments, I mean isn't this the captain's duty? don't they get paid for this? and for 15.00 an hour?

I’ve been in visual for MANY years at various retail organizations. I remember the glory days. That’s looong gone. There’s no more magic or theater to it. It used to be that our job was to try and elevate the customers taste level, now we cater to it whatever it is… sadly it usually involves leggings…
I have more time behind me than ahead of me at this point so if I have to unload trucks, work fulfillment or the selling floor, I just go along to get along.
It’s not about creating anymore for me, it’s about insurance! I will agree with some of the other visual comments that even though Macy’s kinda ki-led for me what I considered at one time a “career”… I’m glad not to be at a larger store. Bigger store, bigger problems. We don’t get many visits or huge visual packages that’s is a lot for 1 person to execute. A big plus is I actually do like who I report to, so that’s a positive.

I am quite fine being a visual captain. Much less stress. I also have a great people leader and store manager. Our store dose not always look perfect but who's store dose. Also don't have to deal with driving all over creation to help the big stores and no DVM to report directly to. I would not want to go back to that!

ISM SU-KS PERIOD!!! The program doesn't play to people's strengths. There are just those people who will never adapt to putting out merchandise or being able to do markdowns, floor moves, plus selling and recovery. That just puts everything on just a few long time employees who know what the he-l we are doing. God help us this Christmas with the id--ts that we hire. To make it better today the air conditioning which they say is fixed BS only works in two areas of the store. Its going to be in the mid 90s by mid week its just unbearable, plus our roof is leaking so bad we had a customer actually slip in water that suddenly started pouring from our ceiling. Fix the stores or close them, your not fooling anyone you know. Its just ridiculous

Visual captains also do truck, recovery, and help elsewhere when needed

Visual Captain -- expected to do the job of a Visual Manager without the title and executive benefits. Also, without a team of support visuals.

Yes, the stores look like hot garbage on a 93 degree day. Those stale blue papered walls have been up since the beginning of the year. And those white light-up mannequin boxes look like Target (but not as fun). No more trend runways or cool windows. Copy the looks exactly from the directive!

I used to be visual and got out at the beginning of ISM. Seems like I dodged several bullets.

Honestly, I'm good with being a Visual Captain. I have an AWESOME People Leader and I enjoy the colleagues I work with. (unfotunately I know this isn't the case for many stores) AND yes, there are crazy times but you gotta roll with punches. ISM, yeah, it has it's good + bad but doesn't everything? And as far as District/Division leaders, no comment. LOL I'm just glad I'm surrounded by some cool people I work with!!! :)

Well, there are some good things and bad things about ISM. Is it here to stay....not likely. It will evolve/change every couple of years, just as Macy's has done with all thier plans. But yes, to have let the VISUAL manager position disappear, was probably a mistake. As far as I've seen, stores are still trying to "embrace" ISM...

ISM is here to stay. There are no mor districts. It’s called divisions and has been for 3 years now.
