Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

I'm not even thinking about productivity

It's disappointing that there is so little transparency here.
They literally keep us guessing and we spend our time working in fear.
Do they really think that fear and uncertainty will make us more productive, because I'm pretty sure that no one can focus on work right now?

As the previous posters said, you focus on you. They're gonna do what they have to do. Keep your own house in order. Be productive, positive, and pleasant.

And keep your skills marketable. Luck favors the prepared.

Take an active role in your life. As the previous poster stated, get and keep your house in order. You do what you have to do because they will do what they have to do. It has nothing to do with you, although it feels like it does. Move forward on your own plan.

The cycle is probably finished for this month. There may be a new cycle next month, maybe not. Monthly intervals are when the small releases are expected to occur. Expect larger releases at quarterly intervals. Since SAS employees are paid monthly, the second and third week of the month may be when you are notified.

Also, realize that some decisions may have already been made and they are just waiting to execute them. Sometimes they wait months, while also giving you "the treatment", in the hope that you leave on your own. Do not look for solace from them. Move forward, regardless.

Regardless of where you work, always stay out of debt (except for an affordable mortgage), and always keep in savings enough money to cover your expenses until you can find (or create) a new job. If you maintain those disciplines, then uncertainty will be at most an irritant, and never a fear. Meanwhile, be productive, positive, and pleasant, and you will go far.
