Is there any way to know when the layoffs will start? Will it be this week or the next or sometime later?

Judging from LinkedIn posts, they happened today. Mostly laid off the smart more senior people who designed and built the products that kept them going.
Looks like management is planning to retain junior staff at lower salaries and try to muddle through with warmed-over product, since many of the people who made the big-name products there are now axed.
The not knowing is the worst part.
