Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Layoffs coming in July

Word down the grapevine is that more cost cuts need to be made to make up for energy consumption and there are too many technicians and engineers that only perform 1 task at the Malta site. This is not aligning with their new McKinsey High performance culture so those that are not qualified to perform more than 2 tasks will be targeted.

Go figure this company wants you to do the jobs of 3 people after layoffs. Polish up those resumes.

When I look at my own team, I don't see how we can spare anyone. Staffing issues have never been more evident. I am basing that on how projects are progressing and how openly people comment on how busy they are and the state of their own teams.

I wonder if they're preparing for a sale. Not trying to start a rumor, but if there are going to be more layoffs, surely it can't only be to placate investors or for "select" people to enrich themselves? If it's to stabilize and secure the company's future, then it's worrisome to think about how bad things actually are.

All these PTs and PEs keep working from home rather than being in fab and making it seem their jobs should be done onsite

It was always their plan. Has been for years now. Management on all teams have been lying to us with the backfill statements or claims they have recs out to fill those vacant positions. The thing is they knew this too but lied over and over to our faces. They are trying to get blood from a stone squeezing us while under paying us. I mean look at what you do most of us should be getting 2-3 salaries for all the responsibilities we have taken on

I heard September. Any PT or onsite job that can be done remotely is being offshored. Heard between 15 to 20% reduction/relocation total from Malta. If you know anyone inside the fab (MT,engineers) you know positions have not been back filled. Multiple shifts are currently running on half the needs for tool maintenance and production upkeep.

IT is time for the full Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to be released and replaced, this is the only way the GF ship has a chance of staying afloat in the future. Enough is enough, remove these incompetent fools so the rest of us have long term jobs/futures at GF.
