Middle management at Optum can't be trusted. The only thing they know how to do is use employees and make sure to overwork us so that we make them look good. We are tired and many of us are getting burnt out but they don't care. I'm starting to hate this place.

Ref: Middle management vs Supervising= we can debate on the division of R&R (roles & responsibilities). At the end of day, good middle management in this org is either long gone or only far few in between left.
Most just take orders and delegate. When pressure on, the blame storms start. Pass through management nothing more...
"Ref: Middle management- the nature of their function is to "manage by example" but sadly many are clueless do not even have the qualified skills to manage let along tried to lead by example."
That is literally not their job. "Manage by example" is not managing, it's front line supervising.
"Slash middle management bring in more people who do the work not tell people to do ot."
Yes, bring in hordes of offshore WiPro "developers" using virtual desktops to develop. Brilliant, also not middle management.
I wish I had a job where all I had to do was my work. My department is all this nonsense team-building cr-p. I really don't want to spend an hour hearing about how somebody's cat had a hysterectomy two years ago. Just let me do my work and go home.
I've worked for Optum for 14 years and the one thing that has been obvious through all the RIF's is they keep middle management and get rid of those that actually do the heavy lifting. It's a toxic company to work for and as much as they say they care for their employees, it's an absolute lie. What matters most to them is revenue, revenue, revenue. In IT, Dev Leads, Managers and Directors all think they know what's best and it's because of their lack of understanding and poor decision making is why HealthCare Premiums are so high because of all the money wasted.
Directors/middle management can be replaced with AI Project Management tools. Only there holding weekly 1.1s, micromanaging, and/or holding disruptive meetings that could be an email. Keep the people doing the real work if cuts have to happen. Stop the boys club mentality keeping leaders with failing departments - who cover it up with constant reorgs or blaming those under them. Start from the top.
To the poster who said “ if you don’t like it leave”…..YOU FIRST!!
Not that easy for some people to leave if they don’t like it. You are clearly the middle management this post is about.
1st world problems... Try picking food in the fields for a living or working in a sla-ghter house for minimum wage. Think about that when you sip your lattes and type on your keyboards. You'll get a better perspective.
Ref: Middle management- the nature of their function is to "manage by example" but sadly many are clueless do not even have the qualified skills to manage let along tried to lead by example. If you excel at what you are doing, they will make sure to take all the credit instead of giving accolade or appreciation.
After all, their priority is to secure their own position and taking order from above without having to lift a finger.
I feel the same way. Slash middle management bring in more people who do the work not tell people to do ot.
We are all with you
Funny how you post this and don't have a clue. If you don't like it, Leave.....
